Engine Management light/Rear diff/Extended Warranty

My MY2010 HSE Auto (93k miles) has recently displayed the Amber Engine Management Light with initially no difference in performance. I have a LR extended warranty. I booked it in to Duckworth’s Mkt Rasen for diagnosis. Over several journeys the engine performance has become more erratic with rushing air noises and the sense of flat spots on accelerations. With my experience I guessed it was caused by a leaking air hose. When booking the car in I also reported rear diff noise and tailgate handle switch failure. Duckworths have confirmed a failed turbo to intecooler hose, a failing diff pinion bearing and a failed tailgate handle micro switch. It is now booked in for repair on 25th, all covered by the LR warranty. The only downside is the loan car is to be a Toyota Aygo 😳.
Since collecting the car post diagnosis, it is clear they treated the car more harshly than I do in normal use. The air noises are more prominent; acceleration goes in surges and is noticeably slow. The car continues to surge in cruise and gear changes are harsh if I use a heavy foot. It is going to be a very boring wait until this gets fixed!

NB. In the handbook the Engine Management light is there for petrol engine only! What’s that about then? 10MY (Sept 09) TD4 HSE Auto in Stornoway Grey (Now Gone)

Surprised they didn't renew the hose there and then.

Your handbook is making the point that this paragraph relates only to petrol engines, not that the warning lamp is only on petrol engines. Diesels don't have a catalytic convertor.
I'd be surprised if diesels and petrols shared the same handbook. Do they? MY11 SD4 SE Auto

i think they do share the same manual, but with paragraphs and sections annotated that they are specific to one or the other.

the manuals for any car always show them with every feature regardless of whether its a basic S spc or loaded HSE Lux spec, saves on printing costs

For those doubters, my manual is copyright Land Rover 2009 P/N LRL 10 02 56 101 which was issued with the car when new. Nowhere else in the manual does it refer to the engine management amber light and the paragraph I photographed implies the light is for petrol engines vehicles only. I say again, there is no reference to diesel in this, implying the light is irrelevant for my model. WRONG! 10MY (Sept 09) TD4 HSE Auto in Stornoway Grey (Now Gone)

Collected car from Duckworths today. All items fixed under Extended Warranty: Low level diff repair (now quiet), Turbo to intercooler hose replaced (we now have power, no flat spots or surges and smooth gear changes). Tailgate handle switch replaced. Parking sensors now working again. Driving back home, the car felt so good to drive Mr. Green - it must have had a bleed from that hose for some time! Thumbs Up

Not sorry to return the Toyota Aygo loaner - felt very vulnerable in such a small car!
