Australia 2011 Freelander 2 SD4 SE Auto Ipanema Sand
Boot mounted auxiliary battery fitted.

Well I knocked this project off this weekend.

Routed the cable out of the boot under the left rear seat, under the sill trims and through the firewall using the bonnet release cable port.

Everything is awfully tight in there, I damaged about four trim scrivets.

Greatest luck though, stuck a coathanger down the firewall and it accidentally went through the bonnet release hole. That could have been many hours of mucking around.

The cable is 5 metres of 6B&S twin core, an ATEM VSR, a pair of 100A circuit breakers and Anderson plugs in the boot. Circuit breakers go on the positive cable as close as possible to each battery.

I used the secondary earth point at the front. I don't know why, but it was there.

I am the world's worst solderer it seems so I won't be surprised if it fails at some point. But now it's over i feel pretty ok.

How are you holding the battery down?

I have strips of aluminium under the boot floor (unfortunately covered by insulation) to hold the fridge to the floor.

The one bolt which you can see is where the tyre is so it had to be as thin as possible so I used a very large washer with a countersunk M6 Allan bolt up through the floor so it's only about 2mm thick under the floor.

How I solder 175amp lugs, with two 120watt irons & half fill the lug with solder & also pre heat the wire with another iron. It's hard to get enough heat into 6awg wire but 2 irons make it easier.

Probably use webbing over and around the battery going through the tie down point behind it, although I haven't settled on the location/orientation yet, see how it works with the fridge in situ. MY11 SD4 SE Auto

A few photos down this page of my custom fridge bracket. It's only 6mm thick so it is fixed in permanently. Maybe some ideas for a bracket for the battery.
