Check the air filter in case it has gotten wet. I had a similar problem a few years ago on a Vauxhall that had been driven through bonnet high water. The air filter had basically became a big sodden mess that had gotten partially sucked up the air intake pipe blocking it. Good luck!

Are you implying it was at considerable speed? Smile If it was then I'd definitely check the airbox. Jules

Hi guys
Sorry to bring up an old thread, but I drove my 2008 2,2d auto from Alicante to Almeria yesterday in torrential rain, steady 100km on a soaked motorway. A journey off around 250km.
A few times I noticed a few judders on acceleration but assumed slight aqua plaining.
After coming off the motorway to normal roads, no power, had to go to manual and trundle along at al low revs to get up to 60kmph max.

At home, removed the air filter (it was like a sodden sponge) so left it til this morning.

I've blasted out the air box and adjoining pipe with air, put in a new air filter and tried it.
Its a bit worse if anything, slow uptake on revs. almost grinds to a halt on any kind of incline, managed 10km a slow speeds.
Rechecked air filter, bone dry as should be, but no power.

Please if anyone can continue this thread of what my next checks would be I would be truly grateful.

Gracias Amigos.

Sid
Thankyou so much for the prompt reply.
Dry today so removed the maf sensor, it seemed dry, but blasted it with air anyway, replaced it and still the same.
Removed it again and tried the car without it, full revs and power again, so I assume its knackered. replacement ordered from Amazon Spain, 32€, so hopefully all good when it arrives.

After reading many topics on here with similar problem, is there a way to prevent this happening again? (Though I doubt we'll have any more rain til next winter here)
And I also notice that my drain hole in the bottom of the filter box doesn't have the rubber washer/valve. Is it worth fitting one.

Again thanks Sid and thanks to the forum.

Yes I think it is worth it from memory it’s supposed to restrict water getting in but allow water out.

Re, the one way drain rubber grommet, yes. if there is any potential of driving through standing water. If you search here, there is a thread that will give you a reference to a generic grommet made for household plumbing that works as a perfect replacement per that thread.
