Tailgate will not open

Hi, I know that there are strings on this topic but I cannot find one like mine.
Got back to the car and the tailgate will not open. The dash shows the message tailgate open. But it will not shift.
Tried force from the inside. It also will not open using the remote tailgate button. I get not clunk when operating the remote tailgate button or the tailgate handle. Obviously I cannot lock the doors however disconnecting the battery then reconnecting will allow me to lock the doors once.
I have checked the 10 amp fuse as that seemed to fit with the problem but it is good.
It seems to me that the unlock solenoid is stuck.
My question is how do I get the tailgate open to get to it?

Try holding down (at the same time) both the door lock and door unlock buttons on the center console. That's supposed to open the trunk... won't help if it's the solenoid but might help if it's electrical.

If someone is able to get the back seat down and crawl into the boot it may be possible to lever the lock open whilst someone else works the lock/pulls on the tailgate from the outside. Failing that it might be possible to get the tailgate panel off enough to get at the lock. Good luck!

Thanks for the replies. I managed to get the panel off and pull it down enough to unscrew the lock. With the electrical plug removed the tailgate could then be forced open leaving the lock still locked on to the catch.
I then managed to lever open the plastic mechanism of the lock and spin the motor gears with a screwdriver and the catch opened. Just ordered a new lock from ebay.
I have refitted the lock temporarily but left the plug off and also the plastic trim. I found that if I short out the two outer pins on the plug, the car sees the tailgate as closed and I can lock the doors.
