There was only 9, 2 Recce + 7 official G4 Challenge FL2's made by Land Rover.

BUT ..... what you must remember is the G4 Challenge, which was due to use FL2's ..... was cancelled.

ALTHOUGH ..... in the earlier year (prior to cancellation) reconnaissance G4 vehicles were used. (including FL2s)

Upon cancellation, Land Rover stripped the FL2 G4 vehicles and sold them through Dealerships. (mainly of the rear tailgate ladder)

Now if you are looking for :-

1, Orange
2, different
3, very rare

I have :-

1, in Blue
2, very very different
3, and extremely rare (as its a one off.)

TBH the FL2 G4 was not a good challenge / exploring vehicle it was no where near as well equipped as the FL1 and the even earlier FL1 Camel Trophy vehicles.

Andy131 has a G4 not sure if it was reconnaissance or stripped vehicle.

I have been asked several times by a 'major LR monthly magazine' for them to photo and write an article on my vehicle. Maybe one day ??

Thumbs Up

I thought there were only 7, 2 of which were used in anger for the recce of the route, but I may be wrong.

I HAD one - big mistake to get rid, but family and health forced my hand.

Yes they are orange, diesel automatics in HSE trim, and tropical climate air conditioning. 17" alloys with Goodyear MTR tyres.
They were kept in storage for a year and then "disposed of" through the dealer network, some bits were "removed" (stolen!) prior to sale
On the vehicle when I bought mine (900 miles and 12 months old)
Front lamp guards
Fire extinguisher
Full height dog guard.
Soft bull-bar
rear boot mat - cut for extinguisher

Underbody armour by Matec, was removed by LR prior o sale.
Rear ladder by Mantec was removed prior to sale, but holes were left in the rear door!
dealer had fitted "normal" 18" alloys with Goodyear road tyres.
Roof rack was missing, so I fitted roof rails to make good, the correct roof racks are like hens teeth.

Mine had noisy aircon (Noticed by LR Stockport during service), this turned out to be non-standard for the UK so took a while to get the parts, that's why I know it's tropical.

Put 17" wheels and under body protection on a standard FL2, service her well and she will be an amazing vehicle, that will get you places (and back) where you never thought possible. Not cheap to run, but put a smile on my face every day for 8 years and over 180k miles. Tangiers Orange - gone, missing her
Replaced by Ewok what a mistake - now a happy Disco Sport owner

If you can't get hold of a genuine G4, you could always consider a Tambora Flame FL2 and give it the G4 extras & decals.
It's not orange, but it's closest to it.

G4 Wanabee - Is that really a good thing? It strikes me as akin to putting Turbo badges and pretend alloy wheel trims on a shopping spec run about.

The majority of the G4 spec parts are no longer available aside what people may have in stock.

Mantec went pop so the under body guards and rear ladder are almost impossible to find at anything but silly money.

The light guards are discontinued and I don't know what the situation is regarding the rubber bull bar affair.

The expedition roof rack has never been easy to get.

I was told that the "tampora flame" colour was used as an "introduction colour" to make the new model visible for the masses, only available to the -07 models. I have to admit that it is really stunning, making the car unike from the grey mass.

Mine the day I bought it:

Very nice. Thumbs Up

Would love to see one with a facelift front bumper, tailgate handle and clear rear lights.
Oh and and also trimmed out with 'black pack' e.g. wheels, grill & side vents.
IMO I think that would look extra tasty. Thumbs Up FL2 now gone and have a couple of items left for sale:-

I am pondering black side vents but the jury is still out.

Certainly not changing to a facelift front as the joy of Terry is he marks the beginning of the FL2, hence my hessitation over the side vents. I also prefer the shape of the original front.

I wasn't for a moment suggesting that anyone changes their FL2 on the basis of what I think.
I just remarked on what I thought would look good. FL2 now gone and have a couple of items left for sale:-

Bluetooth Music Streaming Module.

OK, I'll admit it, if I could still get (not at silly prices) all the G4 spec gear I had been considering adding them to Terry. That doesn't include the stickers. Not to be a G4 wanabee but to improve Terrys robustness while still using, in effect, Land Rover original parts.

The thing is I don't think it would actually look very good

IMO the chrome mirror caps and silver side vents don't help, change the caps to body colour (or black) and the side vents to black and it will improve things greatly I reckon.

One of these went through BCA auctions at Paddock Wood yesterday with only 40k on it, I missed out on it by £100!
