Front strut (shocks) adjustment

Hi guys
Just replaced my first front strut and having terrible trouble getting the halfshaft into the hub.

Was wondering if the strut is deep enough into the housing on the hub carrier. There doesn't seem to be a stop or anything, how do you know when the strut is at the correct position?

Thanks Paul, but that's been my source for the procedure. Doesn't deal with the issue I'm afraid.

I discovered the mechanic is Superman.

Offers up the top mount, strut and spring assembly under the fender and calmly holds it in alignment while bolting it in. I used my hands, arms, foot and leg and still struggled to get the bastard done up.

STOP PRESS. Gonna try loosening those top mount bolts, see if I can get a bit of extra wiggle room.

If it's like the rear ones it butts up too one of the brackets, can't go any higher.
looks like a lot of work, do you really have to remove the brake calliper? didn't on the rears. Common sense isn't very common.

Bloody hell, glad I never saw that pic. No I got it ok after a bit of faffing about.

The callipers are the easy bit, takes a couple of minutes.

You can see them in this pic I hope.
I had a two-hook spring compressor and a pair of single-hook compressors.

The springs are fairly supple though. I was looking for aftermarket longer springs for a bit of lift and needed to measure their natural length.

When I needed to compress them I was pretty comfortable just using the matched pair, having the three took forever to use. Felt like belt and braces, and it wasn't nearly as scary as other springs I've done.

If anyone knows of extended springs for the FL2 let me know!
