As I have lifted the vehicle, I have some larger tyres in the pipeline as soon as I decide on what actual size and brand. This got me thinking about wider wheel arches.
While at John Craddocks one day, I looked at the plastic wheel arches on a D3 they had for sale. As I had my tape measure in the Freelander, I decided to take some measurements and came to the conclusion that it might just be possible to fit these arches to the F2 with a little bit of cutting and fettling (the plastic arches, not the vehicle steelwork).
So, as the full arch set is very expensive , even second hand, I decided to find a cheap piece of the set and ended up buying the n/s rear arch for £10. It's a good fit with the body kit. I even tried it on the front and reckon the correct front arches will also fit - again with a little fettling as they will not fit where the door meets the wing, but will easily clear the side vents.
This might just spur me on to find and buy the rest of the arches. I'll be going to Kelmarsh next month and may end up finding a bargain.

I like the look of that.

Bought a cheap front arch on eBay last night. I'll keep you posted as soon as it arrives.

Ok, so the front arch has arrived and I'm sorry to say it just does not fit at all. Completely different curve.
Looks like I'll finding a set of rears and modding to make a 1 piece arch for the front.

Shame, oh well a bit more work now.... Regards

Well I managed to get a brand new n/s door arch.
Now what I don't get is that both arches are genuine original LR parts.
The rear arch is made of hard brittle plastic, the front one on the door is made from a softer, more flexible material. Also the door arch flat face is less noticeable - I'll take another pic so you'll understand what I mean.
All this aside, I reckon with a bit of fettling I could get a pretty decent fit. Again, the 2 OSR parts will fit the NSF arch but with more fettling needed than rear placement, so 2 full sets of rears (that's eight pieces in all) should enable me to make patterns for a complete set of brand new arches.
I know what I mean

Oh, and that's the neighbours drive I'm on. The house is empty and I park on there (with owners consent) as it gives the impression that someone is living there. So no gripes about the weeds - they're not my problem

You say that the arches you have will allow you to make a pattern, are you planning on moulding another set ofr making fibeglass ones?
It seems like a lot of work to make something that 'nearly' fits, is the finished article going to be neat enough to fit like an OEM finished article? Landrover - turning owners into mechanics since 1948

It's not the finished article. Even then, they'll still look odd to some people. They're not "the norm", so I expect I'll hear this a lot. People are just not used to seeing the Freelander 2 being modified. Heavily in my case - I've still got a few plans in the pipeline including full underbody protection etc.

Here's some arches from the USA that IMHO look odd because they don't actually cover the existing arch, looking even more of an afterthought than what mine will .Plus they cost $800:

The FL2 shape was not intended to be a wide arch, Carlos Fandango boy racer modded car, its was intended as a chunky off road style family SUV without looking like a lifted bob tail Disco 1.

I quite like that, think it would suit mine with the big GG's on.

Nor was the RR,RRS,Evoque etc, but that's what the owners want, so they had wide arch bodykits made for them.


I'm glad you mentioned Carlos Fandango, there are plenty of members on here with 20" and 22" rims. Freelander was never intended for such big rims, but they fit and have been fitted. Wheels that would put Carlos himself to shame

I'm looking at fitting the arches to compliment the lift and bigger tyres, not to "Slam it to the ground with massive bling alloys,rubber band tyres , impractical Premier League footballer body kit and gaudy wrap."
I have no intentions of turning my F2 into a "boy racer" modded car either.
Everything I do to my Freelander 2 will have a practical application, not just aesthetic ones.
