Is this chassis what we will driving after Peugeot take over

This is built on the same (PHEV) chassis as the Peugeot 3008 Hybrid4.

A recent article that I read was speculating that the reason that TATA is looking for a partner (in Peugeot) is that it wants access to their smaller chassis to enable them to have some reasonably priced entry level cars.

It seems TATA have spent a fortune in developing the present round of (luxury) cars. FL2 XS SD4 Auto 2010 2012-2017 (21k - 91k miles) (MY2011)
FL2 Metropolis SD4 Auto 2014 2017- (16k - 76k+ miles) (MY2015)

Well I hope their engineers are more on the ball than their PR department, scroll down that promotion and it states that fully electric vehicles are exempt from road tax, cheaper to maintain and cheaper to run......problem is the vehicle being promoted is NOT fully electric!

Dumb arses, either that or they are basically trying to lure buyers in by deception, same old same old then? Rolling with laughter Regards

It appears that article got at least the partner wrong. From today's Telegraph:

FRANKFURT (Reuters) - BMW on Wednesday said it will develop its next-generation electric motors, transmission and power electronics with Jaguar Land Rover, unveiling yet another industry alliance designed to lower the costs of developing electric cars.

“Together, we have the opportunity to cater more effectively for customer needs by shortening development time and bringing vehicles and state-of-the-art technologies more rapidly to market,” Klaus Froehlich, BMW board member said.

BMW and Jaguar Land Rover said they will save costs through shared development, production planning and joint purchasing.

Both companies will produce electric drivetrains in their own manufacturing facilities, BMW said.

Nick Rogers, Jaguar Land Rover’s engineering director said, “We’ve proven we can build world beating electric cars but now we need to scale the technology to support the next generation of Jaguar and Land Rover products.”

This is better news. Land Rover seemed to shine last time BMW owned them, and BMW have quite a developed small electric/PHEV chassis already for an entry level Land Rover. FL2 XS SD4 Auto 2010 2012-2017 (21k - 91k miles) (MY2011)

Yes. I believe there was to be a 6 cylinder Storm too. But it was never put into production.

BMW took over during the life time of the TD5. One the first things BMW did was to remove the centre differential locking capability (the locking diff was never itself removed IIRC) because it thought its usual customer base incapable of operating such a complex piece of equipment (ie the manual synchronisation of speed, gear lever, clutch and diff lock lever). Hi/Lo ratios remained active through the same lever. It was only following customer pressure that the lock mechanism was reinstated.

There were aftermarket kits which allowed the lever to be re-connected to the locking mechanism. Jules

The internals were removed, can't recall which year though,
I had to buy a 2nd hand box with internals and luckily acquired the genuine linkage, Smile
to honest I didn't get to use it much as the TC work very well, admittedly with a lot of noise from the ABS. Thumbs Up

Yep... I reckon they would still sell really well. I have wondered if JLR would ever sell the tooling to someone else to re-launch it... I'd like to do that for the Rover SD1 as well, though it would need better build quality, inside especially... which the Discos did not suffer.

I had two TD5 autos over seven years.. very good to drive, and a nicer shape to look at than the latest stufff.

Some said the Disco TD5 was a bit under-powered, but serving as a big, seven seat motorway cruiser it was roomy, comfortable, quiet and relatively economical. My second Disco went 133K miles and never logged a fault, averaged well over 35K miles on its tyres and delivered us an excellent trade in price as well... for me, that marks it as a really good car! Lexus RX450H - 500 mile a week commuter- I just couldn’t trust in a newer RRS or DS for that….
2009 Freelander 2 HSE... 155K miles, we’ve done 135k of those, has done brilliantly on the commute and staying firmly put as car two in the household
2002 Jaguar XK8 Coupe... fun, fast, ours for 12 years and owes us nothing - so staying with us too…
