United Kingdom 2012 Freelander 2 TD4 HSE Manual Firenze Red

Re-Mot changes, Nowhere does it mention headlight mods and the prospect that a car retrofitted with Hid lights will fail an mot as a result. Unless they are badly fitted aftermarket kits that do not have a proper beam pattern which would fail under the current rules. Changes relate mainly to emissions and testers will now be looking out for evidence of a DPF having been tampered with and DPF vehicles will fail the new test if there is any evidence of exhaust smoke from the exhaust. No mention either of blanked EGR valves. Please feel free to correct me if I am wrong by pointing out where that information relating to HIDs failing the new test is available.

Do not forget that the MOT rules changed in April, you may not get through next time round because they will be looking out for this upgrade.

There is absolutely no way of distinguishing the upgrade as they are factory headlight units with the same connectors.

The New MOT changes that come in force April 2018 clearly state:

"Existing halogen headlamp units shouldn’t be converted to be used with HID bulbs. If such a conversion has been done, you must fail the headlamp."

Extract taken from MOT draft manual.

That's correct but the discussion was around retrofitting original Landrover lights as an upgrade. Interestingly the manual also mentions another topic that has been discussed many many times with relation to fitting HID headlights-Automatic levelling. The manual states that vehicles fitted with HID headlights MAY be fitted with self levelling or automatic levelling but it can be difficult to determine if it is working or not and testers should give the benefit of the doubt when testing.
