DOT on your Tyres

I am uploading this thread because last week I ordered some new tyres for my FL2 while searching for the same tyres I have on now, Goodyear Wrangler all weather, i came across the link below which decodes the age of your tyres.

The Dot code will be on the side wall either on the outside of the tyre or on the inside four digits example 0518.

Hope this helps, according to the decoder tyres are supposed to be changed after 6 years regardless of how many miles they have done.

After 10 years they are extremely hazardous.

Another good useful link is this.

Thanks for the link! I’ve got two at 40 weeks and two at 45 weeks, even though they were bought 6 months apart. They will be worn out long before they reach old age! 2005 D3 2.7 Auto

re tyre life

hi all, this is an interesting point as some discounted tyre outlets sell older tyres, which can be cheaper but I dont know how much the age of a tyre can affect the tyres performance.

I mean the diference between a 2015 tyre and a 2018 tyre for example.

any tyre experts out there can tell me the age that i should be replacing my tyres irrespective of wear

Ironically, have put the summer tyres back on I checked these only yesterday.

My Conti's are late 2014 rear, early 2016 front. The Wintrac's were three weeks old when I bought them last October.

I've no plans to change the rear Conti's unless the tread miraculously drops to below 3mm in the next two years (all sitting at 5mm currently)

We had the date code on aircraft tyres for ages and I always look on car tyres for it. My winter Pirelli’s went off with age still with wear on them. When having replacement tyres fitted, bought through Blackcircles, he fitter asked why I didn’t go direct through them, as they had some sat on the shelf. I asked the date on them. He told me they were 2 years old. No thanks.

The winter tyres when they went off lacked grip, I could easily slide them on a roundabout and the ABS would kick in when slowing down on a motorway slip road. I took them off after two days and refitted my summer wheels.
