Throttle Valve Failure

Nothing new, just another failed throttle valve at 60k. Shocking bad quality components that LR have used given how readily these units fail as well as all the door lock problems etc. Clearly put profit ahead of quality here when sourcing suppliers!

I’ve just replaced mine at 77,000. Groucho Marks once said. I refuse to join any club that would have me as a member. 😬

It was strange as when the gear was removed the throttle valve worked smoothly and with little effort. From what I've read the thought was that the valve was getting gummed up with oily gunge and hence this put extra strain on the plastic gears and they failed. However from what I've seen with mine it suggests that actually the gears are just not up to the job.....nothing to do with seized valve Confused 2010 FL2 TD4 GS

Mine looked exactly the same as yours. I wasn’t sure if it needed calibration but I’ve spoken to Freelander Specialists in Norfolk and Sue said it isn’t necessary. Groucho Marks once said. I refuse to join any club that would have me as a member. 😬

The Ford Duratorq TDCi engine was used in a multitude of cars....in fact I have one in our 2009 Ford Galaxy 2.0 which has now done 135k miles and never put a foot wrong. No issues with injectors or throttle valves. LR have really done a poor job with the engine auxiliaries it seems Sad 2010 FL2 TD4 GS

Just checked and it's the Pierburg unit that I've ordered. What I did notice is that the same unit is fitted to Ford Mondeo's, Galaxy, S-Max. Do these cars suffer they same failure rate I wonder? 2010 FL2 TD4 GS
