I've found this thread interesting as my F2 has just turned 5yrs old, and apart from one fault, a Haldex failure sorted under warranty, its been great.

I would normally change a car at 5 yrs old, and when mine was in for MOT I had a DS HSE as a loaner. I did enjoy it, and my main criticism was that the interior seemed dark and cramped after the F2.

Are these posts just the usual scaremongering, or is the DS really that bad?

If you want a VW then I suggest you give the Skoda version a try.
The Skoda Kodiaq has been getting good reviews and I thought that it was one of the few SUVs that gave me a similar driving height as my FL2. FL2 XS SD4 Auto 2010 2012-2017 (21k - 91k miles) (MY2011)

I have had my DS (2015 2.2) since November and although its only a couple of months or so I have had no issues and it drives very well. No squeaks ,rattles or other issues. It is a different car from the Freelander although you can recognise a lot of similarities between the two. My Freelander was 6 years old and had done a high mileage and for the high prices being asked for low mileage Freelanders I decided that I would get something different for the outlay. Only time will tell if the DS will be as good as the Freelander was as it was sold with 154,000 on the clock and still had original diff,haldex (with original oils) .clutch egr wheel bearings etc. I wanted the 2.2 engine as my normal commute is very short and I wanted to avoid any oil dilution issues with the 2.0 ltr engine although I believe that any Euro 6 engine will suffer from these issues not just the D.S. Someone earlier on said horses for courses: quite right!
We have both an 18 plate DS SE Tech auto and also a 2010 MY FL2 HSE auto - both diesel. The DS is a fat more refined and clever car. It's more comfortable, quicker, quieter, more economical, better sound system infinitely better connectivity etc. However as the daily hack, the FL2 is more relaxed to drive in and for those of us that can use our neck and turn our head, has much better driver visibility. Neither car is as comfortable as an XC Volvo (I have had 2), both cars are infinitely better than the hire Hyundai "Tux Son" I endured for a month. Also worth saying that neither car has had an issue.

Our little village had eight Freely 2s - the most popular car. Only two have morphed into a DS. Four have remained as Freelies clocking up the miles and the other owners have left the brand. I think that may reasonably indicate the success of the Freely 2 and the relative mediocrity of the DS. Unfortunately Land Rover decided in their wisdom not to replace the Freely 2 - they decided instead to replace the customers and not everyone wants to be so re-educated.

Yup and those on here told me I was crazy to take the old one when the new engine was being launched in 6 months time.

The engine was great, it was the rest of the car I hated Laughing 21MY Defender 90 S 3.0 D200

I have decided to keep the FL2 for another year and see how things go. I have been looking around the forums and the general consensus developing is that this is not the time to buy an ingenium diesel DS. General views are

1. a lot of DS owners are saying that they will get rid of their cars as soon as the warranty runs out as they worry about oil dilution, B pillar rattles, excess adblu usage, balance shaft issues.
2. There is little information out there on the petrol Ingenium and whether it has the same balance shaft issue (I don't see that it should be any different)
3. LR have been trying out a FWD Evoque petrol hybrid with electric power available for the rear wheels on demand (ie just like the FL2). This looks like an interesting approach.
4. This is not confined to JLR but a number of manufacturers are finding it difficult to meet the Euro 6 regs and then 6.1 and 6.2 etc. For me this means that it's effectively the end of the road for diesels and future resale values will reflect that. 3 x FL1 2 manual + 1 auto
5 x FL2 4 manual + 1 auto

Good news for the forum that you are staying.

I am beginning to think that perhaps the long awaited electric / hybrid solutions may be becoming viable at the efficiency originally promised, and dare I say it, a price that we can afford. So worth waiting a year or so.

I have a reservation about separate motors for each driven wheel/axle, in that the configuration doesn't supply all your available torque to the (last) wheel with grip in extreme conditions. (I have seen this with an Outlander PHEV being unable to pull a boat trailer up an uneven slippery ramp)

I am sure though the electric motor rear axle configuration will work very well in normal slippery road / track conditions, FL2 XS SD4 Auto 2010 2012-2017 (21k - 91k miles) (MY2011)

My next door neighbour is a area manager for a big international and told me on Sunday they got their sums wrong letting some reps buy into hybrids. On paper all seemed fine until you have reps doing many, many miles and then the sums do not add up they become much more expensive run. So the tootle around town fine but not for any higher use.

Maybe some of those calculations are based on a rep stuck with no charge left to get around the patch in a day so lost business or having to make many more direct shorter trips to service the old customer base. FL2 MY10 TD4 GS traded in at 2 years

As I understand it the Outlander only has 2 motors, therefore it may only send 50% torque to any set of wheels just like any AWD drive car, depending of course on the software installed. Dragging a boat out of the water on a weed covered slip probably depends more on the tyres, there is the point that if all wheels try to spin then depending on software the torque is reduced until the wheels can't drive Rolling Eyes my PC is slightly to the right of Genghis
