You could have, with a little engineering, placed a second (cut-down) aero cross bar, like the one at the back, towards the front.

I once did a similar build on a Freelander 1. In the photo below you can just make out the extra (front) aero cross bar.

This allows the fixing of a top box without using clamp-on cross bars.

I've got 2 original LR clamp on crossbars, i'd like to use the roofrails without the fixed crossbar, just don't know if this fixed crossbar is a must? 'per aspera ad astra'

This is a Freelander 1 .............. with special extended roof rails, (only available in USA [NAS]...) ...... and no fixed aero cross bar, only clamp-on cross bars.

What I am trying to compare is roof rails on both Freelander 1 and Freelander 2 without aero bar and with aero bar ?

Thanks for the picture!
Indeed i think it is not a must to use the rear fixed crossbar? might take it off and will see what happens Whistle 'per aspera ad astra'

Should you decide to remove the aero cross bar, make sure you plug the fixing holes, else water will get in and when frozen split the roof rail. Common problem on Freelander 1 3dr models.
