Smell diesel fumes on start up

Hi can smell diesel fumes on start up in cab onnce running seem to go anyone had this ?

England 2007 Freelander 2 TD4 GS Manual Baltic Blue

You shouldn’t smell fuel in the cabin even with the steering grommet displaced. There have been cases of injectors or the fuel rail leaking leading to fuel in the cam cover area. I’d have the plastic cover off and have a look around the engine bay for leaking fuel.

If I were you and you're still intent on using it, I'd be carrying a fire extinguisher until you get it sorted .....
..... just in case. Confused FL2 now gone and have a couple of items left for sale:-
