How do you start the Freelander 2 (2014) if the key fob goes dead on you?

Always carry the spare fob! (Now Sold). 2008 Freelander 2 (Nazca Sand) SE TD4 Auto. Statutory write off & on WOVR for hail damage but still road legal.

Hold the key fob against the ridged area underneath the steering column and even with a flat battery the car should start and cancel the alarm.
