It is very important to have the right sized hole with the right size tool to fit. I've tried to explain this in a practical way to my other half but she's not usually so keen as me to try it!!!

In Engineering terms its called a 'Go and No-Go' gauge.

From what I can see they are rods not straps, they may or may not be a touch warm when it's in full cooking mode. my PC is slightly to the right of Genghis

Two tips for anyone making one of these:-

1. Cut drum so that what was the filler hole in the top is now at the lowest point of a side. A hairdryer/hot air gun can then be used to get the fire going really well.

2. A metal drum makes a better job than heat resistant plastic. Everyone can spread it - Anyone can catch it. Stay home - the life you save can be your own!

The best oil drum barbies are cut smaller than 1/2 size. Not too deep then.

Lpg bottles work well. Fill with water before cutting.my. Mate made one and added bomb finns. He uses if at his WW2 nostalgia weekends.
