Fuel Consumption - 2.2 TD4 2012

All,

What sort of fuel consumption are you achieving? Both steady motorway and urban?

Mine is a 2.2 TDI FL2 2012 and it strikes me that its thirsty.

On Wednesday evening on joining the motorway, steady 70 mph on the cruise, 40 miles, with then 12 miles of A roads to come I got 31.9mpg average. It was wet and windy which I don't think helps, but my brothers FL2 gets 38-39mpg.

And even my 3.0 TDI Audi A6 quattro average 41.4 yesterday at a steady 70mph over 65 miles of motorway and 15 miles of A roads!

Thx

Lots of discussion on this forum, it must be one of the most regular subjects, ---just search it

e.g.

The FL2 is not a car to buy if you are overly worried about fuel consumption. FL2 XS SD4 Auto 2010 2012-2017 (21k - 91k miles) (MY2011)
FL2 Metropolis SD4 Auto 2014 2017- (16k - 76k+ miles) (MY2015)

Is your brother’s FL2 an older pre-DPF model? On that sort of run, my 59 plate TD4 Manual (with no DPF) would read 38-39mpg on the dash and be 36 to 37 when properly calculated. 2005 D3 2.7 Auto

Over 8 years of ownership, the running average is 33mpg. It gets better when on long journeys with little traffic and so much worse travelling around town. Just for comparison, SWMBO used to own a 1.4l Peugeot 207, horrible little thing, gutless and we could only just get 28mpg. Replaced it with a Fiesta ST3 which gives us 33mpg but is so much more fun to drive. Very Happy

Petrol with 237 hp engine:

Lately a lot of extremely short trips 14 mpg. Best on 380 km of freeway with light traffic at average speed of 61.5 mph back into Sydney 34 mpg. As soon as I hit Sydney, well, leaning towards the previous number!

Petrol engine is fun!

The Freelander is a luxury car, life is too short to look at fuel consumption! Drive carefully & you can buy an extra cappuccino a week! Procrastination, mankind's greatest labour saving device!
