It does tend to be one of a very small number of 'search soldiers' that get on on every single topic, i wondered for a while if it was just a post count thing. I've noticed that recently the same group have been jumping in when the question in hand has been miss understood . . .

I guess for some regularly reoccurring questions/themes we could put a thread together to index the 'better' threads with real useful information?

Typically for an infotainment issue i'll search for 'StuartC' then by number of replies. Anything over 50 usually has at least one useful post. Then the same for 'Cambo' and 'AlexP'. If i haven't found the answer by then I have to assume i'm on my own Rolling with laughter

So is it now wrong to reply with something like' try the search as I did and found numerous posts on......... '
for example HB3. well that's going to put people off bothering. Sorry to the OP if it offends but replying to a question by telling them to look in the search area IS helping!! Rolling Eyes If it wasn't so bad it'd be funny.

I am surprised by the site moderators response above.

I thought the whole purpose of these forums was to pool what knowledge exists, and help that knowledge spread amongst the rest of forum of people with similar interests.

Yes, it may need a gentle reminder to search, but surely not before helping that person in need.

As I have said before, I was, and am, very grateful to those who have responded to my queries, and to those who have posted helpful tips.

I have learn't a lot, and will continue hopefully to do so, please don't give up on helping others.

Thank you. FL2 XS SD4 Auto 2010 2012-2017 (21k - 91k miles) (MY2011)

I too am surprised by that reply.
Fair play to the ones with a good knowledge of Freelanders or motors in general. If it wasn't so bad it'd be funny.

Glad your surprised, Iā€™m not, Iā€™ve been here from the beginning and seen a lot a good knowledgable forum members come and go because of peopleā€™s attitudes on here.

Seems to me people will just do what ever they want nowadays, so carry on as normal, this rant wonā€™t make a difference Former Mod/Member, with the most post & Chicken George Arch nemesis

It's a throwaway society, but they've bought a car that's too expensive to throwaway, therefore they either jump in and expect an answer or trash the car in print though they bought a dog due to lack of research or cdf or both my PC is slightly to the right of Genghis

so at 20,000 posts ......but what have you contributed ????

I would say, time for NEW blood ......

I suspect you feel you 'OWN' this forum ....... the NEXT generation will 'OWN' this forum.

Be prepared to stand aside and let this forum advance .....

I ran the FL1 club for many years .......but life evolves ...... as did I ........ in allowing others to take over ....

How do we remove current moderators ............ and vote in 'NEW BLOOD' ????

With that post it sums up the forum nowadays completely

I donā€™t own the forum, itā€™s more of a babysitting duty for grown adults to throw their teddies out

No need to vote me out, I said to Taz that iā€™ll Leave at 20k post when he left as I nearly did at the same time

Enjoy Thumbs Up Former Mod/Member, with the most post & Chicken George Arch nemesis

Was part of a Freelander 1 forum for many , many years. I've left that forum since owning my F2 but used to pop back occasionally just to see what's been going on.
Now I don't bother at all . Why ? Because it seems the same topics/questions that were being asked 10+ years ago are still being asked over and over again by newbies. Nobody uses the Search facility any more and there can be several threads on the first page all covering the same thing.

That's because FL1's is reaching a far bigger audience.

Questions will be repeat after repeat.

FL2 is starting to go the same way ....

........you can't stop this type of 'progress' ........... owners will decide .......... not the HardStays

These days no young things want to be secretary or treasurer etc of organisations any more as it is all too much effort. They all expect everything to happen. Did my bit years ago & it is a lot of work.

Also I have been on our building's committee for years & the amount of work you need to contribute to save money for the building to run efficiently is ridiculous & you get no pay for it. Procrastination, mankind's greatest labour saving device!
