My drive is sloped - driving on to it is fine with smooth power without any lurching. Conversely when reversing onto the drive the power either comes in a rush or the car stays stationary. The upshot is a very jerky reversal. (hope this makes sense)

Is this just me not being able to finesse the throttle or is there a problem? MY 09 GS manual in Lago Grey, Wood Co arm rest and side bumper strips - now sold.

There is a problem. I do not have a greatly sloping driveway but I do tow a caravan and often reverse it in to position. No problem at all, the throttle response is smooth and controlled, without any lurching or snatch.

i do sometimes find you need to allow a few seconds for gear to engage in the auto,........ so put it into gear (D or R), pause, then apply the gas

It's the GRC working.
Just apply a light throttle and wait until the system detects there is enough torque preventing the car from rolling and it will release the brakes. If you apply a lot of throttle it will release brakes and car will lurch forward/black depending on the selection you have made.
Neutral Functioning is also disengaged whilst GRC is active so it's held in gear. MY15

Yes I have noticed that both of my FL2s have been hard to reverse on sloping surfaces, especially if you are in a tight space and need a bit of finesse.
To me it feels as I have too much torque arriving, too suddenly, no matter how gently I adjust the throttle.

On the flat I have no problem as it gently moves with it's normal creep.

I think stuartc may be right as the FL2 has the ability to sense that it is on a slope and acts as 'IT' thinks best. (and is trying to stop me rolling into something accidentally)

Having said that, the Gradient Releases Control should gradually release after a short period? FL2 XS SD4 Auto 2010 2012-2017 (21k - 91k miles) (MY2011)

sounds like mine, reversing of the sloping drive way, apply throttle doesn't move apply more moves, take off gas asap etc

had LR check it out on my last car and no fault found, or more a case of computer said no Former Mod/Member, with the most post & Chicken George Arch nemesis

Thank god for that, thought it was me  If it wasn't so bad it'd be funny.
