Central Locking Problem

Hi all. I wonder if anyone can help or has experienced the same thing?

Last week the remote stopped working. It didn't lock or unlock the car. I tried the other remote and it didn't work either, although I was pretty sure the other remote had a flat battery and wouldn't hold a charge, so I thought that my 'everyday' remote had a flat battery too.

So I ordered two new batteries.

I swapped out the battery in the spare remote first, and it worked...so I thought I would try the 'everyday' remote just to see if it worked, and it had started working again!

Anyway...fast forward to yesterday. Neither remotes worked. So I had to lock and unlock using the key. Yesterday turning the key locked and unlocked all four doors and boot. Today, I tried the remote...it worked...once...then didn't work again, and now turning the key only works on the passenger door, and when I open the door the alarm goes off.

Flat battery perhaps?

...and today...they've both started working again!

Weird Question

Did you ever get to the bottom of this? I am suffering a very similar problem, both remotes stopped working at the same time. Was told it was most likely the battery in the car so took that off and gave it a full charge, docked key went for a long drive to make sure fob was charged and when I got out of the car neither remote would lock the car.

The problem seems to have gone away, but I have a new central locking problem now in that the drivers door doesn’t lock, when the rest do Sad

I wonder if changing the battery did actually solve my initial problem?

Good luck, hope you find a solution.

I had the central locking problem earlier this year, the driver's door wouldn't lock whilst the other doors operate normally. If you locked the car you could still open the driver side and the alarm would go off. The problem was with the locking module in the driver's door which apparently controls everything. It's a very common problem and in my case it failed on a very hot day in a French car park. 3 x FL1 2 manual + 1 auto

Have the same problem with a 2009. Did you solve the issue?

My issue with neither key working turned out to be a faulty antenna on the roof which was replaced and solved the problem

The central Locking problem was related to the antenna?

I didn’t in the end as haven’t had access to my tools due to a house move and them being in storage. However, it has temporarily fixed itself...although I know it will come back Smile

The RF receiver is installed above the headlining, adjacent to the rear interior light. The receiver provides functionality for the remote central locking system, and is also used by the tire pressure monitoring system and interior lighting function

Quote from Workshop manual

I know from experience that the car will gradually shut down according to time and battery condition. Even if your battery is good, it will stop looking for your key after about 28days, and everything apart from the door alarm will stop working to save the battery. If your battery is suspect then it will be shorter. FL2 XS SD4 Auto 2010 2012-2017 (21k - 91k miles) (MY2011)

Thanks Ian for your input. So what you are saying is if the car battery and/or fob batteries are low in power it will effect the central locking opening and closing mechanism? Surely it either works or it doesent? For example yesterday I got into the car in the morning and car opened first time and worked fine after a long cold night. It also locked fine. Yesterday afternoon after a long drive (that I would imagine would have charged up the various batteries ) I came to my destination and got out of the car, switched off engine and tried to lock car. It wouldn’t lock drivers door but all others! After several clicks it did!! It seems to have a mind of its own. This problem is Realy frustrating as well as insecure not knowing if I can get in or lock my car every time I drive! Help😱

Yes
Most systems in the FL2 are controlled by control modules talking to each other via wired 'CAN BUS' system.
All these little computers and switches drain the battery when they are working, so the FL2 has quite a good power monitoring system which turns off various bits of kit and monitors battery.
The last of these to be switched off are the RF recievers for the central locking, and the internal car alarm.
The perimeter alarm monitors the 'door ajar' signals from each of your 'door lock modules', amongst other things.

Having said that; I don't think that is your problem;
How worn are your key fobs, I have had trouble (on a different car) with dodgy key fob switches that were cured by a new outer cover.
I have also had a failing driver's door lock module on my previous FL2 , which affected the operation of other door locks, although not completely. FL2 XS SD4 Auto 2010 2012-2017 (21k - 91k miles) (MY2011)

Thank you Ian. Excellent advice and will follow it. Will report back when I get to the root of the problem. My instinct tells me it’s a stiff and sticky drivers door module! We shall see:) Thanks for your helpðŸ‘
