oil leak - gearbox / transmission

Anyone else got an oil leak between the transmission & gear box ? Big Cry Just trying to see if I am unlucky, or if it is a known fault.

Also - will the engine oil have to be drained out for the transmission / gearbox gaskit to be fixed ?

Or - can the gear box & transmission be removed without having to drain the engine oil ?

Yip I have a leak also. I think it is either the drive shaft comming out of the box, seal, or leak between the two casing flanges of the gear box right beside the gearbox sump plug (the plug is not leaking). It is going in on Friday and I will be looking at the problem with a mechanic as I dont trust what I have been told as originaly the leak was put down to a breather pipe problem. This has been changed and the leak is still there. I will let you know how I get on.

Had the leak fixed as it was put down to a leaking drive shaft seal between the gearbox and PTU (power transmission unit). The drive shaft requires to be removed and the seal changed. Since this has been done the leak has stopped, touch wood !!!

mine was fixed (I hope) during the 1st service.

It seems to be a known problem, owing to the fact they were looking out for this specific leak during the service.

The leak is small, meaning there was no oil patch on my drive.

Mine went in for it's 2nd year service on the 16th December and it was reported that there was a slight leak between the box and the block.

There is apparently a seal just above the main bearing seal on the engine that can weep a little, Peugeot had the same problem on their 4x4 which uses the same engine.

Mine goes in next week for the box to be removed and the fault rectified, it's also having a new clutch and the heater recall completed. Freelander 2 HSE Lux 2013MY - Barolo Black with Ivory Leather. Alpine DVD - Privacy -Evoque 20" Dynamic Wheels and more to come.........
