Push the buttons lights work fine setting 2 and then setting one then they switch off.
The only way I can get the seats to actually warm up is by pulling the fuses and replacing them. The seats won't work unless I do this.

Anyone know what's up please?

Extra earth lead, hard reset and clear fault codes. May not be the cure but it won’t do any harm for little cost and worth a try. Your battery is fine ? FL2 MY10 TD4 GS traded in at 2 years

When you say you replace the fuses do you mean they are blowing, or do you mean you take out the fuses and put them back?

Just take out and put back. They are not blowing.

A shot in the dark could it be a Relay problem?

That's what I thought. Can't understand why powering them down could 'reset' the relay.

I'm used to relays chattering or just failing on boiler pcbs , and mains voltage a.c. units too. But fail to understand why this happens on the car.
Obviously I'm not familiar with this fault.
Where are the relays for them, can't see them in the manual?
I'd assume they're under the seat!
Is it just one relay or two? Even weirder for same fault on two relays don't you think?

Page 84 shows you the wiring and modules associated with heating your seats.
It looks as if it more complicated than just a feed through a switch from the battery.

Are you resetting control module(s) when removing the fuses? FL2 XS SD4 Auto 2010 2012-2017 (21k - 91k miles) (MY2011)

It's not the module under the seat. Bought a spare and tried it. No luck.
I'll have another mooch at the diagram.

I pulled the old module apart. There is a small pcb in there with all sorts of jiggery pokery on it. Not user serviceable unless you're into electronics.

talking to a few gas guys i know, the wiring is all data related. they mentioned linbus and canbus, which is another language to me tbh. bring back good old relays and transformers i say!

one chap suggested that it could be the dash switches, so, i took the dash apart and stripped them out. guess what? another pcb attached to it all.

looking closely i could see a clear oily residue covering the back of the pcb where the switches were in contact with it.

i've seen similar in burglar alarm key pads and my van key fob, it has cause problems with them in the past. so, i stripped them down and cleaned carefully with kitchen roll, then sprayed with wd 40 to de grease them and reassembled.

no such luck on the freelander!

put it all back but no luck........

im currently in touch with a uni lecturer to gain his input.

So. Ordered a replacement dash switch assembly, stripped down and reassembled.

No change.

Might try another hard reset now and see if that changes anything.

There is a special test routine under "Special Applications" in SDD that tests the integrity of the whole heated seat system which will pinpoint the problem with the heated seat network.
Get it diagnosed and you will know exactly where the problem is.
Each seat base has a "thermistor" in it. That may have failed causing that seat system to stop working.

Hi, I have had heated seats in the last several motors, but find them a bit disconcerting...............always think I've wet myself!! It's always the leather seats that catch you out. Dave

Had an intermittent starter problem, new starter motor sorted it. While it was in the garage, I asked about the heated seat problem.

Garage owner said he had same problem! He didn't even bother telling me how much to fix it.

Apparently it's the main climate control unit that develops the fault, behind the dash fascia, nothing to do with sensors or thermistors.

He said ' it's eye wateringly expensive!.

Think I'll just wire a switch into the feed from the boot.
