From how I read it, there will be absolutely no change to the VED of existing diesel vehicles but from April 2018, any NEW vehicles registered will pay more in the first year if they do not comply with the new emission legislation (whatever that is). Vans are exempt. Past: FL2 TD4 HSE Auto

I would say expect an increase in April 2018 for current users of FL2's come what may in VED in line with the RPI (no sure what month it will be taken at). FL2 MY10 TD4 GS traded in at 2 years

The increase in line with RPI for existing owners is not too bad but I just don't understand the VED rules on new diesels post April 2018.

Read a piece on the BBC web pages this morning and although like many I am also confused it mentioned the odd car and a new Disco get a £400 uplift when first taxed (on top of what already exists I think). FL2 MY10 TD4 GS traded in at 2 years

Of course if Hammond had allowed a rise in fuel duty it shows in the RPI and CPI figures so its all smoke and mirrors as usual. FL2 MY10 TD4 GS traded in at 2 years

Thanks, that's clearer. So by saying it's an increase on cars that do not meet the "latest emissions standards" it's actually only cars with emissions standards that do not yet exist that are exempt ![]() |

Agreed and RDE-2 will probably will never exist for diesels. I can't see manufacturers putting any development money into diesels from now on. 3 x FL1 2 manual + 1 auto

Bad for your small local dealers then as you will be able to order a car in the rest of UK and avoid it. FL2 MY10 TD4 GS traded in at 2 years

So, existing diesel cars first registered before 31/03/17 and not meeting the pollution criteria are to go up one VED band from next April. Am I reading this right? So my £305 current VED for my 2009 TD4 will rise next year to £520?! Derek Hill
