England 2011 LR2 SD4 HSE Auto Zermatt Silver
Hi and thanks for adding me

Hi everyone, I've just bought myself a 61reg sd4 and absolutely love it. I'm new to freelander and would like to know the origin of the sd4 engine, can anyone bring me up to speed? My new motor has quite high mileage but a full or service history so fingers crossed

Hi and welcome
when you say the origin of the SD4 what are you looking for ?

The engine is a Ford PSA lump, used in quite a few cars over the years. Its basically the same as when the FL2 was introduced in 2006. Been used by various manufacturers in various models in various configurations (Jag, Citroen, Ford, LR and I think some Mazda)

Originally introduced in 2006 as the TD4 with 160bhp and 295lb/ft and no DPF. In 2010 the TD4 was reduced to 150bhp with the addition of DPF, and the SD4 with 190bhp and 310lb/ft was brought in along with cosmetic upgrades. Some models from 2009 have stop/start and there a few 2WD versions floating about.

The SD4 has uprated turbo, hoses, and a few other bits plus a host of other non performance upgrades. It was only available as an Auto.

That's basically it in a nutshell. Very Happy

A lot of people have had at least 2 of the variants, me included, and a lot of people think the SD4 Auto is the best combination of them all, again me included.
