Code Reader

Never thought about acquiring a code reader - but there is an item on amazon today "ANCEL AD210 OBD II Car Code Reader Automotive Vehicle OBD2" that has started me thinking if a code reader is a worthwhile purchase.

Any thoughts?

Essential equipment

Your FL2 needs one at some point. Buy a good one though.

What to buy

What do you want it to do is the question ?

Just a straightforward code reader are a plenty.
Land Rover specific gets a better version that reads in more depth.
If you want to do CCF alterations you need to spend even more. Unlock codes per model cost you a bit more.
Youtube shows every type in operation if you do a search for the ones that meet your needs.

I am thinking that it would be an asset to have one that I could plug into my car if it has a problem so I would have some idea of what is wrong before it goes into the garage if a repair is needed. I would not want to alter anything other than maybe reset the service reminder if my mates garage forgets to do it.

Something simple & reasonably easy to understand as not that technical with cars, it will go to the garage for anything other than changing wiper blades or a bulb etc.

The more information shown the more costly.

It's also more of a question of what you do with the information.

I have a Foxwell NT510 bought from Gendan it can get access into most modules.

Have a look at this movie. Then revisit it after you have used your scanner for a few times.

I got one of the cheap generic u480 code readers off amazon to live in the car, which has been fine for checking and clearing fault codes.

Thats cheap enough Tinytim, would be ok for what I need as have neither the skill or interest to do anything other than look if there is a fault on the car just so I know what it is thats wrong.
