aaargh, phones again....

Well, after washing my Nokia N95 in a boilersuit recently (which had crap connection to the FL2), I went and bought a Nokia 6500 classic from argos, (which fully connected, and I was so so happpy, calling from the steering wheel).
After experiencing full functionality with the 6500 I am really really disasppointed that my new N96 does not even connect properly. Oh, the phone builders and the car makers really REALLY need to sort out bluetooth conection so that people can connect phones to their cars.
Just a gripe. Anyone else P'd off????

Yes, me, with a Nokia E61i. Had to have an ugly standard Nokia carkit installed and then couldn't be supplied with suitable cabling to allow auto-muting of the radio, so have to remember to manual turn it down each time a call comes in or I want to make a call!
At time of getting the FL2 I had an older more basic Nokia which worked a dream!

errmmm, surely, LR cannot predict the compatibility of phones that didn't exist when the PTI was designed/built? Isn't it up to Nokia (for example) to stick to the interface requirements? Having said that I don't know why some phones work and other don't, even for the same brand. Phil

Have you tried the trick used with iPhone i.e. get both devices searching for pairing?

You need a phone that supports PBAP (Phone Book Access Profile)

Nokia Symbian phones (apart from the very latest S60 5th edition ones, which claim to) don't support this profile.

You can work around this to some extent by sending each phonebook contact to the car via bluetooth. You get the steering wheel controls (I assume, I've only ever used the wheel on the stereo to pick a phone number). You don't get the last 10 lists though.

See http://www.freel2.com/forum/topic2860-15.html where I described the procedure in more detail.

OP, I'm interested in the problems you had with the N95 - I have connection drops occasionally with mine, but worse is the background "screeching" heard by people I speak to sometimes, does anyone else get that?

Thanks,

Mike

United Kingdom 2007 Freelander 2 TD4 SE Manual Tambora Flame

It's great with my old Nokia 6230i but for some reason from time to time it forgets the wife's sony ericson. It just no longer appears on the list. 07 Freelander 2 TD4SE Tambora Flame, side steps, privacy glass, mud flaps, boot liner and a tow bar. Ok it's the Wifes but she lets me drive it occasionally - if I've been good!
