United Kingdom 2008 Freelander 2 TD4_e GS Manual Stornoway Grey
ATS Batteries

Has anyone had any experience with batteries from ATS Euromaster?

Was thinking of getting this one...
https://shop.atseuromaster.co.uk/car-produ...e)/3456607

I want a really good strong battery as I occasionally have to leave hazard and a flashing LED light bar running (warning lights).
Currently only a stock land rover battery is fitted to my 2008 Fl2.

Recommendations / advice please Smile

Do you have stop start ? If not the spec could be wrong. A heavy duty battery to the right spec I would have thought. FL2 MY10 TD4 GS traded in at 2 years

Thanks Yorky. No start stop on mine.
What makes this one the wrong spec?

There is usually only 2 different batteries fitted to diesel Freelanders, an 096 (like you are looking at) or a 110 which is slightly bigger in size as well as capacity. There is also a110 xd version for stop start vehicles. No hard and fast rule to say which battery fits which particular models as they cover all years. I am from the school of bigger is better especially if running work lights etc and when choosing a new battery will always try and get the biggest one that will fit the battery tray or the biggest one available for my make /model of car. I have never had any issues with alternators or wiring as a result but others may have a differing opinion. You have listed your Freelander as a td4-e, I thought that should have had stop start as standard? Not fitted or just not working? Whistle

Thanks dondiddy, that makes sense. Sorry model is wrong in my description it is a straight td4 not an 'e' variant.

Your 2008 car is not stop start, so this is larger capacity then needed but OK if it fits in the battery compartment. I must say though, there are cheaper alternatives, even AGM batteries.

Spec for stop start is AGM (Advanced Glass Mat) 80amp 800CCC (ColdCrankCapacity), the battery you have listed is not AGM but exceeds this spec.

Have a good look online, there are some good quality (Bosch) S4 batteries (not AGM) that will do just fine for around £95 delivered.  MY2014 SD4 XS

When renewing my battery's on my vehicles I always just go for as big as the battery box will allow.

Also if using auxiliaries having a trickle charger would do your battery life a great deal of good. Every season just connect it up over night. The reason being a alternator doesn't have the ability to fully charge only top up. This apples to all marks of vehicle not just but with all the electronics installed to LR products we are particularly subject to this.

Do not mix "normal" batteries with AGR. The charging parameters are different and if you change from one to t'other the charging system should be reprogrammed by a dealer. Using a higher spec version of the same type is fine, indeed recommended. You might consider adding a second earth lead for added efficiency/peace of mind. Quite a few (rather elderly) threads on this site about this. Ex AA Series III LWB Safari - Gone
300TDi Disco (bought new - terrible car) sent back after 18 months
Freelander 1 Estate - leased, given back at end of lease
200TDi Disco (bought from a mate with 100,000 on the clock) - Gone
Disco 2 TD5 - sold and exported to France
FR2 TD4 GS - Gone
FR2 SD4 HSE - Now changed for a DS
New model ex-demo Evoque S 180 in white
Unable to order a new DS, so gave up. Now have a Volvo S90 Recharge.

In the days when I had a company car I recall the transport manager sending out a message to all company car drivers saying how strange it was that quite a few cars and vans, when returned for replacement at about 3 years old, appeared to have batteries in them that were substantially older than the car. Shocked He was considering a scheme whereby the details of the original battery would be recorded with the vehicle records. 3 x FL1 2 manual + 1 auto
