We have a 2007 HSE with about 80k on the clock, the shocks feel good when jounced but it seems to wallow quite a bit on the road. There is no abnormal tire wear & the sway bar links & bushes all look good, it has factory size tires at factory pressures & raising the pressure makes no improvement. The closest dealer is 2 hours away & closest shock tester is 3 hours away.
Any ideas before I fork out for 4 new shocks?

How long have you had it and what was your previous car? May be that you are just not used to the FL2 driving characteristics? When I first got my one I came from a Golf GTTDI and it did feel a bit more 'floaty' than the Golf! Past: FL2 TD4 HSE Auto

What Steve D says, if you drive a big slab like a Freelander 2 with any spirit it will not feel planted. IMHO when I drive the Freel 2 or any of the other Freel 2 courtesy cars which I've had over the years I always get the feeling that the body is still turning into the corner when I've pointed the wheels in some other direction. I don't think it's dangerous as it has enough traction control features to stop you doing anything too silly. As far as what I'm used to here are our cars, the WRX & XR6 ute both have sport suspension & drive accordingly but the 2 American cars aren't built to handle & have huge cast iron V8's in the front but they hold their own against the FL2!
It seems to dip to the left when turning right or hitting an uneven part of the road so maybe I have a faulty spring or shock on the front left?

Well, the yank cars are a bit lower and a lot wider than the FL2 so probably will hold their own. When I got rid of my FL2 I changed to an Evoque Dynamic with magneride suspension and 20" wheels. Basically a FL2 in a posh frock but the drive and handling couldn't be more different! Even a 'standard' Evoque with 18" wheels feels a bit rock 'n' roll compared to my one so it's all relative.

As you say, it wouldn't hurt to get your suspension checked out though.  Past: FL2 TD4 HSE Auto

Adding more tonic to the gin works for me.  FL2 MY10 TD4 GS traded in at 2 years

WRX well with full time symmetrical AWD and vector breaking you are certainly comparing chalk and cheese ! I know the Outback with those systems( has the same groundclearance as a FL2 and is longer than a Disco 4 ) feels rock solid compared to the Freelander and will run rings around one on the twisties z. Can you drive/ borrow another FL2 to compare handling?

We don't know anyone that has one but we are keeping our eyes open for another one to compare ours to. 👍

We went out for a drive tonight to try to pinpoint exactly what the problem is & this is what I found-
Perfectly flat & straight paved roads it sits nice
Paved roads with slight bumps in the wheeltracks it kind of rocks from side to side like a boat chine walking.
Cornering on paved roads is not too bad but coming out of the corners it gets the sway thing going on.
The handling doesn't seem to change much from 40km/h around town or 100km/h on the open road.

I really like this vehicle but I do want it to be a bit better handling so I'll keep at it to see what I can do to make it a bit better at least

Before you have anything done have a 4 wheel alignment check, just to make sure it's all running true. MY13 HSE LUX Aintree Green
