Public Liability Insurance

So after a long career working for a big corporate entity I'm going it alone as a self employed sole trader consultant (the dark side beckons).

I'm joining a band of others as an associate consultant which requires me to have liability insurance (not professional indemnity) in case I accident,y slip and harpoon a client with my biro....

Anybody out there doing similar and have similar instance? I've had a couple of 'ok' quotes so far. A friend suggested I try the NFU but what an utter and complete waste of time that was - I might as well if phoned the local care home fir all the help they were. Have worked out what NFU stands for though, No F*** Use!

Any help much appreciated

Cheers
John

We have £15M liability for our engineers out on the road, I think this is the minimum we need to be able to work in NHS sites.
I don't think it's a massive premium, I'll have a look.

Check out the FSB (federation of small businesses). It is well worth joining. They have an insurance partner too which generally offers good prices.

There are plenty of benefits in joining the FSB anyway so worthy checking it out. FL2 HSE Lux 2011 SD4 Gallway Green.

I get my Public Liability insurance through Intasure, a Royal Sun Alliance company. 10M Employee, 5M Public. Just checked my renewal and it was £128 for the year. That's at one fixed premises though - don't know how it works when you are out on the road.

You say you are joining a band of other consultants. Where do they get theirs from? Past: FL2 TD4 HSE Auto

Present: Audi A3 S Line.

I'm a insurance broker dealing in Landlords Insurance, and we had cover with a Lloyds Syndicate Broker for our PI cover, and a very very good deal it was

Due to a little in house politics (a long story about no longer doing our business through them) they declined to offer renewal, so i approached the people providing the cover direct after receiving quotes of £3k upwards elsewhere

They referred me to the broking side of the business (one can't deal direct and must be done with a broker) and I got the renewal for £2k less

Happy days Very Happy

I can provide you their details if you like? They might be able to offer something reasonable, might not be as good a deal as mine, i think they was please to get the business back Former Mod/Member, with the most post & Chicken George Arch nemesis

Many thanks for the replies, will have a look at RSA I think.

My other associates are scattered around the globe so use all sorts of companies. The NFU recommendation came from a U.K. based associate who got his from them (Wrexham office) but my local office (Matlock) didn't have a clue!

Cheers

Even at circa £1,000 it seems expensive unless your company does Tree Surgery as a sideline. Are you sure it doesn't include Professional Indemnity. Prior to retirement I was an ifa and the pi costs were eye-watering with premiums in excess of £4,000 to cover a small practice. MY 09 GS manual in Lago Grey, Wood Co arm rest and side bumper strips - now sold.

Hi CG

Must admit to being surprised at the NFU. They checked and called me back to say that their underwriters couldn't do it but to try another office as maybe theirs could - which sounds even more like Censored than ever.

Might try the Bakewell office or even Wrexham where my colleague got his!

Cheers
