Time to replace my FL2: Evoque or last of the D4?

Hi All

My FL2 will be replaced sometime in the next few months but I'm not too sure on what its replacement will be.

SWMBO loves her Evoque but I like the Discovery 4 as well.

So..... with the D4 coming to an end in 3 months, should I go for an Evoque SE Tech with a few options (list about £39k) or try to get one of the last D4 for that? I wouldn't mind having a 66 plate D4 as a pre-registered one.

What do the experts on this forum think?

What do you think my chances of snagging a new or nearly-new D4 for that are?

Fair or rocking horse ***?

I got the same dilemma. I love the D4 but the running cost it is double to the Freelander 2, Disco Sport or Evoque... i think it depends how much are you going to use the capabilities of the D4

my heart is a D4 but my life stile dont justify the running cost

Ivan Freelander 2 GS 59 plate about 35k miles (gone)
Freelander 2 GS 60 plate MY11 about 28k miles (gone)
Freelander 2 GS 13 plate

I would definitely love the D4 but what ££ do you reckon I could realistically find one for this September?

I went for the D4 and the day to day running costs are not double. Road tax is £65 extra, insurance £100 and mpg is c.29 as opposed to 33 mpg but with the service pack at my modest mileage there is a saving in excess of £1k to be had over 5 years Very Happy. Obviously if you factor in depreciation it may be double. Big Cry

D4 it's a different beast, it gets my vote. Mine is just entry level SE with xenons and privacy glass the only options. I came from a HSE DS, but we won't talk about it, still to raw Embarassed Laughing

Was browsing old posts and realised it was time to give the update.

My job is changing and I will be doing many more miles commuting so this prompted the eventual decision. I have posted an ad for an unused alloy wheel and tyre, mats and boot liners in the For Sale section. Reasonable offers considered since I don't really want to put them on eBay.

I don't need seven seats so now have the Evoque HSE Dynamic 5 door in red. I got a 10% discount which made it SE Tech money so happy with that. Local dealer arranged painting of wheels and lettering and I picked it up yesterday. Very Happy

OH is still looking at the Ewok convertible, I'm not so sure, yes it's sunny here but at 40deg in mid summer the drop head will be less drop, nothing worse than cooking in the sun when at stand still, even travelling it won't be a cool breeze more a hot blast from a hair dryer. The boot is ridiculously small and the rear seats don't fold forwards, she says it's a sexy car, I say not practical, we would certainly need a second car or the rear seats would get a hammering as just about everything would need to be loaded on them including the dog.
The problem with the FL is that the GPS doesn't work in Cyprus, how LR sold a car out here with a standard fit GPS that didn't work I don't know Rolling Eyes my PC is slightly to the right of Genghis

Yes I know about that, same weight as the FL HSE, seems LR have dropped the 150bhp option on the car only engine option now is the 180bhp. The weight increase seems to be in body rigidity as there is little or no scuttle shake, however with a 100kph max speed limit on dual carriageways and 80kph on single roads and anywhere can be reached in an hour performance is not critical and neither is fuel consumption.
The biggest problem I think is the importer and how they treat the warranty, so far they have not impressed me, delivery is about 3-4 months and the catalogue and prices for options is 2016 though they can quote 2017 price for the basic car, there are changes to the basic car in the UK spec but not shown on their brochure and I'm not paying top € for a reduced spec even if it is VAT free. The Cyprus web site for LR doesn't contain a "build your own" with prices and at the moment it would be more advantageous to ship mine back to UK and buy a VAT free for export car there. my PC is slightly to the right of Genghis
