I've answered to your (same) question here...

Look at the digit before the "H". If it reads 9, or later, you have Gen. 4 of Haldex. If it reads 8, or earlier, you have Gen. 3.

Or, to be sure, look under your car and see the housing of the Haldex pump as seen on below picture.
If it's a regular plastic covered cylinder as in the left picture, it's Gen. 3.
If it has a metal end protuberance, like on the right picture, it's Gen. 4.

Can I put a Haldex 3 instead of a Haldex 4?
And is iT possible that the H4 looks like a H1? www.freelanderclub.be

LR and some people have put H4 (so newer) in place of a H3 (older) and not viceversa....

I don't believe H4 looks like H1 because the internals are completely different...
Look here: http://www.awdwiki.com/en/haldex/

thanks!
My mistake, i thougt there was a H1 also in a FL2. Embarassed

An other question:
- if you turn manually on the haldex, will the gears (? is it correct?) in de rear diff turn? Because I removed my 2006 FL2 halfdex en rear diff, and if I turn on the wheel of the Haldex (looks like a H4), the gears inside always turn. I have a an other one, seems to be a H3. If I turn here on the wheel of the haldex, the gears doesn't turn round. www.freelanderclub.be

the reason why I asked this: I have problems with my rear diff (FL2 2006) and it seems that the rear diff and haldex is a H4. The spare part looks like a H3. So I'm wonderling if it will work? www.freelanderclub.be

"Pardon my ignorance, but does anyone know the reason for the change on design?"

That was so they could hide the Haldex gauze filter right under the prop shaft attachment and make you have to take that off before you can clean the gauze filter in normal maintenance. They had forgotten to make this as awkward as possible on the original design.

Naturally, it is incredibly difficult to undo the bolt requiring a vice and a large breaker bar plus some mild swearing. Big Cry

JensV, first look at the picture I posted in the 4th message in this thread and identify exactly which Haldex version you have.
Then, as H3 has been installed until MY2009 and yours is a MY2007, if you have a H4 it means the car has been modified to accept a H4 instead of H3 and you should look for that kind of H4.
