Upgrade to satnav 2012 FL2 Facelift

Evening all

I have been looking to upgrade my 2012 facelift GS with a satnav from a HSE. I have the chance to get a screen, control nobs and a new facia panel
I'm on the thinking that as my GS already has a shark fin on the roof, the screen will go straight in wiring wise?
Does anyone know if I will need extra parts?

Also, how easy is it to get the facia holding the heating, radio controls off?

Appreciate any advice you can give me

Thanks

Control knobs?

Are we talking about a 2013MY car or a 2012MY?

Post some pictures of what you've got?

If it's a 2013MY then retrofitting nav is a huge job regarding the wiring, it's more economical to buy another car that already has nav. 2008 Freelander 2 HSE Si6 Black/Black - Hers

Hi
It's a 12MY but the facelift, so it basically the same as a MY13 etc. Same interior and signature DTRL
As its only a GS, it has the smaller info screen rather than the Satnav
I was on the thinking all the wiring would be there as it also comes with the shark fin from new fitted

I'm guessing you have DAB?
This is the reason you will have a roof arial.
It will not have the GPS circuitry and wiring is also very different. MY15

This is why pictures are helpful. From what you've said i'm still not 100% sure of which model you have or what equipment is fitted...

Your car may have been built in 2012 but you describe a 2013MY system.

They have either the full 7" touchscreen like this;

Which are known as the Hi-Line.

Or there is the smaller radio display like this;

Which is known as the Lo-Line.

It is not feasible to upgrade a Lo-Line to a Hi-Line system. Many many components need to be changed, and the wiring harness' (two of them, chassis harness and infotainment harness) are totally different. The cost to upgrade from Lo-Line to Hi-Line would far exceed any price difference on the purchase of the car.

When it comes to the Hi-Line there is also several different versions, which adds to the confusion.

7" screen with nav, base audio
7" screen without nav, premium audio
7" screen with nav, premium audio

The hardware (screen and wiring) is different for those three setups as well, wiring being the chassis harness and the infotainment harness. To swap these from one vehicle to another requires stripping out the entire cabin, including the dashboard. Big job.

Then you have to look at the nav components. The factory hard drive navigation computer is about 1200 quid as a spare part new, and I have never seen a 2nd hand one for sale ever... a proper retrofit of factory navigation is thousands and thousands of pounds to do it right. And then, you are stuck with having to buy maps from JLR at their price...

If you have the 7" screen without navigation, there is an aftermarket nav unit which is available to upgrade the screen, we have them in Australia, surely there would be something similar in the UK http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/OEM-GPS-RESTORE-...1575454617

But frankly, if you are starting out with the little Lo-Line screen, i'd sell the car and buy one that already has the bigger screen in it. 2008 Freelander 2 HSE Si6 Black/Black - Hers
