Oil change period

Hi everybody,
I missed this forum as I was too busy to log in the last few days.
I now have 3600km on my LR2 and everything seems normal (except one trip comp reset and a driver's seat reset).
Now, the car manual suggests that I change the car oil at 12000km Exclamation This seems quite a lot to me (we used to change oil every 5000km some years ago). Do you people suggest that I follow the manual instructions or would changing oil at 6000km would be preferable?

Hi. Personally, I'd stick to the manual. If anything goes wrong and you've followed this to the letter, then you should be fully covered by your warranty.

Just my view.

Some cars nowadays have a build-in detector that warns when the oil should be changed - depending on driving conditions. Some engines warn for the first time after not less than 30 000 Km. So you shouldn't worry but do not forget to keep an eye on the oil level indicator !

According to my handbook, and previous advice on this website, service intervals are 15000 miles or 12 months, whichever occurs first.

this is for a TD4 engine, would think petrols are similar (or higher mileage) than this.

Hello,

My dealer also told me first maintenance should be done after 22.500 km. I now have 11.500 km and oil level is at minimum (seems fairly normal with a new diesel engine). I will ask them to take a look at this at the same time they examine (for the third time) the cracks in the back of the car.

Still like the car very much.
