Shelf Life of Products

Just received a replacement ABS sensor loom for the front right and it has 'shelf life product' 'use by 09/11/2020' on the box, it is genuine LR. Is this something that is the norm? I haven't come across this before so it got me thinking?? Date on the package said 21.12.2015, so should we be looking at replacing ABS sensors within 5 years? Not sure if these are part of the service/maintenance list? Any other parts with a known shelf life?

Wales 2014 Freelander 2 SD4 HSE Lux Auto Sumatra Black

Not landrover related (exept that i was driveing one at the time my freelander 2 )

Pulled into a Petrol station to fill up (one of these multi- thingies we have out in the country eggs, milk coal ,logs ect)
when passing the pile of bagged COAL noticed a USE BY DATE on the afore mentioned item.
upon questioning person behind the counter as to the USE BY DATE on the coal I mentioned
How can it have a USE BY DATE as it was stuck in the ground for several millon years....???

his answer "Must have Matured" so I asked if I came back after the use by date (next month) could I have it for free

Dunno said he will have to ask ????? Rolling with laughter Rolling with laughter Thumbs Up Thumbs Up Wales

Oil has a shelf life, as do airbag (SRS) components

I wouldn't be concerned about an ABS sensor Thumbs Up

In many products the use before date is there to protect you from the package decaying rather than the contents.

Joe Fix it until it's broke !
