12v on all the time (24/7) in the passenger footwell box.

I'm thinking about piggybacking on the alarm fuse? You can get those holders that share.

Thanks Alex !

F24 is supposed to supply the receiver for the fuel fired booster heater.
Go for it if he has power.

England 2009 Freelander 2 TD4 S Manual Stornoway Grey

Like soooo many people I've been inspired by many (egipp especially) and have bought a Nuvi 1490T. I'm fairly happy with all the guidance I have managed to gather from reading your comments guys (and gals).

The one thing i really want to do though is get a better understanding of the volume of the unit when it's in place...

1. Does the cubby hole stay in place behind it? (if so does this not muffle the sound)
2. Is the microphone's performance hindered in any way (I'd really like to be able to use the bluetooth handsfree feature too).
3. Does anyone have any idea if the unit is strong enough t power a larger speaker that I could mount under the grill above the unit (and if so what type of speaker)?

I really can't wait to get this mini-project underway... i just want to show it off to you guys when I've done it!

Thumbs Up On a quest to tour the Caravan club sites of the country in my FL2... if only to find a younger CC member! :-/

The cubby hole stays and the unit is fixed in place at the front of it, my hearing leaves a lot to be desired (I have lost the high frequencies) but can hear the commands quite distinctly, whether it would be good enough for bluetooth calls I don't know as I use the LR system.

The unit will not power a larger speaker direct, it would have to be dis-assembled, the speaker wires fed to a powered pre-amp with its output to another speaker. As for the impedance of the internal speaker or the pre-amp input it would need to be dis-assembled.

G'Day barn_uk, Firstly, thanks for your kind comment, I think you'll be pleased with the 1490. EYorkshire is spot on about the sound volume, I run it at 80% volume with no problems. As far as the microphone is concerned, although I had no problems linking my phone via Bluetooth and the hands free all worked, the microphone is not very sensitive and requires you (or at least, me) to shout to work reasonably well. This was just impractical in normal use, so I no longer use the phone link. I did check with Garmin to see if there was a facility to increase the microphone's volume, but it is a factory pre set and can't be amended.
Good luck with the installation,
Cheers

Australia 2007 Freelander 2 i6 SE Auto Tambora Flame

I have utilised the standard spare F5 fuse for my Garmin SatNav however, I want to also put my phone cradle on the drivers side of the windscreen. I intend to just add a double adapter to the cigar lighter socket I installed behind the glove-box.

Does anyone have any idea how best to pass the power cable from the glove-box all the way across the dash to the drivers A-piller?

Regards,
Whytey 1st time FL2 owner. 2007 SE i6 in Tambora Flame.

Thanks for all the good tips, I've got my camera and mobile charging from a cigarette lighter/USB behind the glove box powered from F5. Two tips: a) if you use one of these piggy back fuses, you need to put a fuse in both slots (I used two 10A fuses), and b) watch for volts drop along your USB cable...... (don't use the cheapest 2m USB cables as the camera needs a few milliamps to switch on).

Final piece of tidying up was routing the cable behind the door pillar cover is pretty straightforward as shown in the photos. (obviously it is weel out of the way of the airbag!)

Moved my dash-cam to the new (to me) 2014 Freelander 2. I used F4 for the switched live. All good and cables fitted behind door pillar too.
