United Kingdom 2014 Freelander 2 SD4 XS Auto Loire Blue
Disco sport TV advert

I switched on TV last night and there was an advert half way through showing a car going through some water (with a sub titled warning to check depth first). The car looked fairly bland like any other car and with no close ups. It was only at the end that the Land Rover badge came up and a message saying Disco sport. Not very inspiring I must say.

It reminded me of the 1970's days when British Leyland introduced the Ital which was just a slightly facelifted Morris Marina and all you saw was long shots of the car disappearing. The objective there was to get you to go to a dealers and not pre judge. I wonder if they are using the same strategy? 3 x FL1 2 manual + 1 auto

I couldn't help wondering why the driver needed to put up the third row of seats for the dogs! All somewhat contrived.

It was presumably filmed during the launch event in Iceland - there were various river crossings there.

This was my favourite but I guess they aren't chasing this market any more.

Pretty poor standard of advert for Land Rover in my opinion. Doesn稚 sell it to me. Hope the car works out better. Confused Gone:

United Kingdom 2011 Freelander 2 SD4 HSE Auto Bali Blue

This was BMW's effort for the X3 back in 2011, it was on the tv quite alot at the time, strange that you don't see that many 4x4 adverts nowadays.

 Now - 2017 BMW X3 M Sport Carbon Black
Gone - 2014 BMW X3 M Sport Space Grey, faultless!
Gone - 2011 Freelander 2 SD4 HSE Bali Blue with xenons

It seems to be all about the "urban off roader" experience now. It's amazing that everyone wants to be in the SUV category now, even Bentley and I understand that over 50% of Porsches built are the Cayenne 4x4.

It has occurred to me, that given that the DS Auto has the same Transmission Selector 'Dial' as found on the Jag XF, that there is now no provision for Command Shift 1 when tackling obstinate terrain.

Are they claiming that the new 'Active Driveline' replaces the driver input on this front? When ascending/descending steep tracks off road, I like to be in control of my inputs with regards to gear ratios, rather than allow the car to decide that it stays in 'D' all the time and HDC will miraculously take all the strain. Foraging near Gaydon....

does it not have flappy paddles to engage 1st gear Idea

Personally i have only glimpsed at the advert, but i see no reason to not advertise it on TV, after all someone might miss it been launched and mistook it for something else on the road Former Mod/Member, with the most post & Chicken George Arch nemesis

Yes, I forgot about those Wink

I have one for the day next Tuesday, so am going to give it a proper off-road test at Avon Dasset. The Freelander can cope with those gradients...be interesting to see how the DS fares. Knowing my luck, I'll rip the sump off Rolling with laughter Foraging near Gaydon....

Just select it using the paddle shift.

Active Driveline is supposed to be the business, better off road ability, I've never tried it so don't know for sure how good it is. Not sure if it's available on UK cars yet. 21MY Defender 90 S 3.0 D200
