Alcosense

With the increasing focus on road safety, drink-driving etc and clamour to reduce the limit from 70 to 50mg etc, I was wondwering about buying one o' these...

http://www.alcosense.co.uk/alcosense-elite.html

Anyone bought one? Or similar? Any thoughts on their value, or accuracy? Trustworthiness?

Any thoughts welcomed.

I wouldn't drink and drive but having a few glasses of wine of an evening, I now worry about 'the morning after' & blood alco levels perhaps 10 hours after drinking, and see no other way (apart from not going out till the afternoon...) to gauge if I'm OK to join the throng on the King's Highway... Confused ...

Be true to yourself. That way happiness lies...

I've got one and think it's very good....may not be 100% accurate but close enough I reckon. I got it for morning after as with the new lower limit in Scotland I don't want to take any chances. I've experimented with it a lot with some surprising results.
When I bought mine there was a long waiting time for delivery but I managed to find one in Boots at Edinburgh Airport - don't know if this has improved recently.

The one that we use at work (coach driver) is pretty accurate, not sure who makes it though. 21MY Defender 90 S 3.0 D200

So I assume you never drive the day after you have had a drink?

The morning after seems to be the dangerous bit. Most people know not to drive after having any form of drink now but assume they will be fine by morning. Learned to drive in 2011.
Bought a Micra - great little car
"Upgraded" to Kia Sportage - hated it
Proper upgrade to FL2 TD4 GS 60 reg Facelift - tailgate paint issues, fuel gauge rewire, transfer box failure at 36k miles, clutch at 60k
Reconditioned diff at 70k ish
Sold at 84k and now on a DS. Terribly unreliable.
Sold DS for a 2021 Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV. Fingers crossed....
Sold Outlander for a 2014 SD4 SE Tech because I’m mental

I had meant to say in my last reply, I always felt that self test kits were a bad idea. There's a reason the ones the Police use are regularly calibrated and cleaned etc - for accuracy. Home test ones aren't scrutinised in the same way so you may use it incorrectly, it could be faulty, anything. If you feel you need to test if you are safe to drive, maybe that should be the warning light rather than what the tester says. Learned to drive in 2011.

For me though it's the opposite. I bought it because I always wondered even though I felt I was VERY able to drive I always had that worry that I would not pass the test, especially now in Scotland with the lower limit. What it did for me was to confirm my own self assessment was good. In fact testing over many times, there were quite a few occasions where I just would not consider driving but the test showed I was well within the limit.
So, was the meter reading correct? I believe it was because other tests I did after having a few drinks showed I was well over the limit. You can also test the monitor as well.
Obviously there are no guarantees, I wonder how the local plod would react if you turned up(on foot) at your local police station(if it's not been closed!) and asked to be breathalysed! Wasting Police Time? Or maybe making good use of police time, crime prevention and all that?

I'm tea total, so not a concern of mine but it's company policy for random alcohol and drugs tests. 21MY Defender 90 S 3.0 D200

Correct... although I gave up drinking many years ago for the most part.
