2007 Freelander 2 TD4 XS Manual Stornoway Grey

I had a Jeep Liberty (which is the new Cherokee in the UK) whilst in the US a couple of months ago.

Kinda liked it, but not a patch on the FL2. The CHerokee wasn't as good on the road, although the 3.7l engine was nice for a bit of fun. Interior was very basic, and not upto the standard of the FL2, not even close.

I'm sure it would do well offroad, and has low range box as well. But not so sure as it would out do an FL2.

AS you can I tell I like the FL2 much better. But just my opinion.

To be fair though, I did drive 12 hours, over 600 miles in a day in the Liberty, and you really wouldn't have known it, didn't feel like as long a day.

United Kingdom 2007 Freelander 2 TD4 SE Manual Tambora Flame

Our revious 4x4 was a cherokee. What we really wanted was a 4x4 with German build and trim (we traded an A3) but the choice at the time was FL1 or Cherokee.
We bought the Jeep because
a) it was better trimmed than a fl1 - to us the fl1 had an 80's feel and reminded me of my Mk3 escort. (sorry fl1 owners). The jeep was far more luxurious.
b) it looked nicer than an fl1 - sort of big chunky tonka style with a good hint of its heritage in the design. Liked the front of the fl1 but the rest was a bit dull really.
c) The spec was way better than an fl1 - can't remember what but I do remember that a lot of things we wanted simply weren't available at all from LR.
The Jeep drove like a truck - but the Mrs seemed to like that at the time.

Clearly the fl2 is vastly better in every way than the old cherokee and has leapfrogged it on every point but I did wonder whether we should have waited for the new cherokee. After all, it was going to be a lot cheaper and considering they'd have seen the fl2 I was expecting something comparable but 5k cheaper..

So the new one
Ok - its 5k cheaper.
From the pics, nowhere near as well trimmed as an fl2
same spec
still drives like a truck (fun intially but get boring and eventually annoying as you simply can't hussle it)
Looks awful. Clearly whoever designed it only does straight edges.

... I think we made the right decision ! 07 Freelander 2 TD4SE Tambora Flame, side steps, privacy glass, mud flaps, boot liner and a tow bar. Ok it's the Wifes but she lets me drive it occasionally - if I've been good!
