The rule for Easyjet and others is two crew members in the cockpit at all times, not pilots, one pilot, one crew member. That could be steward/stewardess, or any crew transiting to their next rota /off duty location, including standby crew on longhaul flights. my PC is slightly to the right of Genghis

the voice recording will have picked up the noise of the co pilot been in incapacitated, i don't think that would have been possible to be done, when the recorder picked up the sound of a chair sliding back, then later the noise of the tapping to be allowed back in, the banging, the ground proximity sensor, the screams, then .... One line of enquiry evidently in these situations (eg the Malaysian case) is that the pilot may have a grudge against one of the passengers (eg jilted girlfriend) and decides to take them and everyone else with him.

I'd have thought at least some passengers were well aware what was going on.
