Bit Fecked Off

Bit of a moan here. Researched the FL2 pretty heavily before purchase and felt (and was reassured) that in general, the car was pretty reliable and that the issues on the forum weren't the norm. I bought a 2011 TD4 from an LR dealer with warranty and so far, in only 9 months/6000 miles of ownership I have had:

Tailgate paint issue requiring a respray
Failed fuel gauge requiring rewire
Questionable gearbox

It is currently booked in to get a drone from the rear checked (doesn't look like it is tyre related) so possibly a bearing or rear diff
And today I spotted that the bloomin rear light casing is all fogged up.

Now fair enough none of those things are major but it really takes the shine off the car. Friends warned me not to get Freelander but I said the reputation was from the FL1 and this one was very reliable. Been mocked quite a few times when I admit it has been back to the dealer.

Sorry for the moan, I know you take risks buying used, but still! Kinda worried about keeping past the warranty expiration! And what's worse is I love the car.

Funny that, after 4 FL2s I found that the earlier one was the most reliable. The rest have been one problem after another and certainly worse than the TD4 FL1s. The FL2 is a great car but poorly engineered. 3 x FL1 2 manual + 1 auto

Disappointing I have to say. I live in hope that that'll be all my issues done and none will appear that I can't sort myself outside of warranty. I also think I saw a pig fly past the window.

We have had two where it became difficult to get into 5th without a grinding noise, then it would jump out of gear. There is a "fix" where you adjust the cables under the gear stick but it doesn't work for long. We got rid of one and the other had a gearbox rebuild under warranty. 3 x FL1 2 manual + 1 auto

No car is infallible. Anyone who buys anything, not just a car, these days expecting it to be trouble free is kidding themselves. Some people are luckier than others, but keep something for long enough and it will fail at some stage. I think you have been unlucky, but it could be worse and after all that is what warranties are for. I am sorry that you have had a bad experience, but as your research would have told you, Freelanders are not the most reliable cars around. I love mine and if something major goes I will deal with it at the time, I would still buy another because they are great cars and most people get a lot of enjoyment from them. Hope you get yours sorted. Thumbs Up

Yes, I would agree I have been unlucky. But I have to say despite all car forums being filled with people with problems (car related), I did feel I was buying a reliable car. Maybe I mistook reliable for trouble free, which I suppose are 2 different things.

Like you though I love my car and smile every time I use it.

I assume your local dealer is Morrisons, so you should be OK they have a good reputation in the central area, many from our neck of the woods use Morrisons because of the better perceived service than the Glasgow dealers. It is far better to have problems under warranty Sad my PC is slightly to the right of Genghis
