GS 2007 13500 miles £15995

As I've said on another thread the re values going down. I'm tied into a 30 month contract on my car starting Jan 07, I've recently checked the same deal and found the price residual after 30 months is now £2500 lower than in Jan 07. Given that our beloved FL2 is NOT in the highest CO2 band and DOES return very good mpg I think this is somewhat unfair. In reality it is an over reaction to some of the media hype out there.

But as they say, perception IS reality and if the media is reporting these stories about declining values then that's how it is in peoples minds ....

I dont think it is just our FL2's that are suffering, I suspect with the credit crunch, the mortgage hassles and with everything costing what it does of late, many people just can't change their motors as much as they used to. I regularly drive past garages with a reasonable local reputation that used to have a steady turnover on the forecourt, now I just see the same motors sitting there for weeks if not months on end. Even small low insurance group cars don't seem to move as quick as they used to.
Having said that I may just turn this to my advantage. My daughter will be learning to drive in a couple of months and I am suddenly finding that what I had in mind to spend on her first car will buy something at least a couple of years newer than it would have done a while back.
Could another reason for the drop be that there are now FL2's on the market outside of the dealer network?

Agree with John, and suspect if someone was to look at residuals on many cars they would see that many of them are lower than they were over a year ago.

Too many people react too quickly to many things and maybe cheaper vehicles on teh market is just a sign of people overreacting and 'dumping' their vehicles, meaning many low valued vehicles are around now. Once you've tasted GREY you'll never go back!

Glasses guide published a report this last few days, they averaged out a 12% drop in all secondhand values between now and the end of the year. If 12% is the average then there's going be some a lot worse than 12% Shocked

Now I can accept the fuel price is a market driven issue but to start playing around with the VED is a completely unnecessary and is just adding to the problem of spiraling costs we are all dealing with. My opinion is that the bloody government are entirely responsible for this.

As they are also responsible for this dithering about stamp duty issue, which has has brought what was left of a housing market to a grinding halt. We're in the process of selling a house, nearly got to the point of an offer this last few days, then guess what, the stamp duty fiasco rears its head. (not our house, my mum's house that we're selling to pay for the care home she's is - that's another story)

This place is turning to ****

I know this is getting off topic but I am totally with Avtur on this one. I was in exactly the same situation 3 years ago with my late mum, luckily her bungalow sold quickly but why the hell should the elderly pay for their care. They paid taxes all their working lives. Bloody government.
I'll stop moaning now!
