The rear doors of my Freelander 2 stay locked until one of the front doors is opened, as if the child locks are activated, which they are not.

Is this a programmable feature which can be disabled  garioch43

Single press lock/unlock on the fob might fix this. Pretty sure it's covered in the manual.

After car has moved off and doors have locked, the back doors cannot be opened from the inside until one of the front doors has been opened, or the unlock button on the dash pushed. garioch43

I haven't tried it but I believe that is what the small lock lever next to the door handle does, the rear passenger pulls that first, then the door handle and the door will open.

The OP has said the child locks are not activated, if they were then no amount of pulling or pushing from the inside would open the door.
If the child locks are not activated then besides the global dash opening or front door opening scenario, the only way is for the rear passenger to pull the small lever prior to the door opening lever.

EYorkshire - You are quite correct. Just tried it and it works as you described. As you say, a bit OTT.

scrimple - child lock system is completely different. Will only allow back doors to be opened from the outside. garioch43

Must admit it is sometimes annoying trying to explain to people that get a lift, how to get out Normaly remember the dash button but sometimes forget then have them pulling away on the door handle like a monkey

There may be a difference in model years and it is 'Auto' specific, but with my 2013 model if I stop and put it in 'Park' I think it allows easy access out of the rear seats without the use of the lock lever, I know it allows the boot to be opened from the outside without the global press when I drop my wife off and she's hammering on the window to get her bags out of the back.

My thinking on this is the car knows it is stationary by being in 'park' so no chance of opening with a moving car.
