But... I got $20K off the list price (@ 3000Kms) - it really wasn't worth paying 25K more for an HSE for the sake of signature strips and Xenons.

Question: If you wanted signature but remain with halogens, is it simply a straight swap of the headlight unit?

Couldn't find an answer to this...

I fitted xenon to mine and had to have it programmed to the car but am pretty sure if just replacing for the sake of the strip should ba a straight swap.

Straight swap. The function of the signature strip as a side light is recognised (instead of a dimmed DRL) straight away without any modification. 2016 BMW X3 30d SE in red

Gave the car a wash today and swapped the near side headlamp back to the original non-signature version to do a comparison. Not a great photo but with the side lights on, you can see the off side is using the signature as a sidelight and on the near side a dimmed DRL instead.

2013 Freelander 2 SD4 GS Auto Fuji White

My FL is a 2013 GS with halogen HB3 bulbs and LED round driving lamps, no signature LED. Totally standard.
I have seen genuine Land Rover HID headlights advertised, they are 2013 with round LED driving lights and signature lights.
Are they a straight changeover from existing lamps without any wiring except for possibly visiting dealer for programme change.
Any help appreciated, thanks. All FL2's (3) Gone

Yes I have done this on mine but you will have to get an indie to program as most dealers will not!

To clarify, my si4 se has halogen with DRL and Signature strips.
