...........

It all related to CO2 output isn't it? What's the road tax for a current FL1?

Simon
Are you sure, how is all this extra income going to be spent?
I am convinced this "green" policy is just another excuse to raise more tax from us David

And then there is the Land Rover Tax imposed by LR themselves of something like £150 for the F2

Hi Pelyma
Carbon offset is charged in the price, I understood we had no choice for first year unless you have better news! What as buyers do we get out of it?

No at the launch they said it was an opt out not an opt in, could have changed I guess. I'd pay the £150 just to annoy the antis Wink

If I remember the carbon offset scheme on LR is to cover first 40k miles? If it is £150 then thats is quite expensive, didn't notice if it was optional at time of purchase, though did notice that you don't have to renew it whne mileage threshold has been reached.

I've just joined a carbon offset scheme (called Targetneutral) I've paid £22 for 12 months on a diesel car at 30k miles per year and 40mpg, the calculations aren't very scientific, but you can see the benefit of diesel over petrol. I don't think carbon offset is the long term answer but its a start at least. By the way anyone notice thats there is a FL2 diesel-electric hybrid planned a couple of years form now?

Well if you're a cynical type you'll pick holes in the very idea of carbon offset; that said I'm willing to put my trust in others on this matter. The bottom line is I get nothing for my money other than a sense of satisfaction (?) that I believe I'm doing the right thing. The money I contribute will be spent helping other people to develop sources of energy that do not generate CO2, and there by not compounding the effect of my CO2 emissions; these scheme are designed to work on a global scale (since its a global problem) so my money is not spent in the UK. Some carbon offset schemes focus on tree planting as a way to offset emissions.

The cynics can have a field day with these schemes, such is life! One, often made point, is that the scale of UK vehicle emissions as a percentage of the global problem is so small as to be almost insignificant so why bother. (and when you see how the Americans use gasoline it does make you wonder). So maybe I'm a sucker for being dawn into this, who knows?

Hi Chaps,

I think the offset also goes to cover the amount of carbon that was produced to make your vehicle and run it for the first 40K miles, therefore we have a zero carbon footprint for the manufacture of and use of the car upuntil that point. So we can have an easy conscience as we 'carve' up the green lanes and heath lands of the UK or further afield.
