two strange noises - can you help?

Hi

I bought my Freelander in the summer, it's a 57 plate (2008) and it is making a strange noise. I am not sure if I am only noticing it now because I am not using the air conditioning as much or if it is a new sound.

It is a light air type sound like the air conditioning is on (it is not) or like a quiet radio static type noise - the strange thing is, if I press the brake it silences it. You can hear it all the time except when the brake is depressed.

The second is probably more normal but I just wanted to check it was ok. When I am accelerating the engine is quite noisy - much nosier than my previous cars - is this normal? It is a much larger car than I have had before so I suspect it is more to do with the size but I wondered if there was anything else that I need watch out for?

Many thanks
Elouise Smile

I have the EXACT same noise on mine which is silenced by pressing the brake - thought I was imagining it at first!

Anyway I haven't even attempted to find a solution, weird as it is, it doesn't effect anything.

Keep driving:)

As far as the first noise is concerned I would be tempted to whip out the brake pads, clean the calliper bracket/sliders and apply a small amount of copper grease to the pads where they act on the slider faces. Costs nothing but eliminates one possible source of the noise.

On the second noise, yes there are noisier on acceleration but it may be worth checking you have no leaks in the induction/turbo pipes. Not unknown on FL2s. John

This noise is so faint and can be heard when not even moving! By touching the brake it stops.... I dont believe that applying grease would help resolve this minor issue at all.

Ah, right... does it when not moving. In which case the servo leak is a good place to start. John
