My handbrake needed doing so off down the Stealers and was quoted nearly £600 for new rear discs new rear pads and rear shoes, also both the handbrake mechanisms were seized so it included replacing. I was also advised that the brake fluid needed changing and this would be £120. So £720 in total with VAT. No courtesy car and it was hit and miss if anyone could drop me home.
My service is due in December and it's always been done by the same Stealer.

I went to my little indi round the corner.. left the car with him, I picked it up and was charged a whopping £320 !.
He never used LR parts but mid priced parts all round. The brake fluid was changed with LR spec fluid. The hand brake mechanisms didn't need replacing just taking apart and cleaning, he done this as well.

How the hell can LR ever justify charging this ??

My extended warranty runs out in Decemeber, I'l be taking out RAC breakdown and putting the £65 in a piggy bank!

They charge these prices because the normal buyer is paying around 40k for a truck

Must admit yes they are stupidly dear but they have always seems good to deal with im my opinion


Maybe if they stoped trying to shove free tea and coffee down your neck when you walk in the door they could save some money and make the hourly rate cheaper

The indi I use adjusted my hand brake, it cost 25 quid, that was for a full strip down, clean and adjustment. He did it while being serviced as the wheels were off. He did my brake fluid change free of charge also. Last service I needed front and rear pads. The indy fitted Pagid pads, this was done for 140 quid. He said there was some savings in labour as the wheels were off again for the service.

I appreciate the main dealers have to make money etc but I don't know how they can justify rip off service prices. The service packs that LR offer on new cars seem excellent value for money, maybe shows how much mark up on prices the dealers make? Black MY2013 SD4 GS Auto, Wood Company Armrest, Freel2 sticker.

Simple really, the Dealer has to pay for the posh showroom, the Indi doesn't, the commission on a new car won't run the showroom alone, so the mark up on the Workshop goes part of the way to fund the Showroom.

Can be much cheaper at an Indi...on my previous FL2, I had front and rear discs and pads, handbrake shoes and all the adjusters/tensioners changed (completely seized) and the brake fluid changed for about £500 (had a couple of other things done too so estimating bill minus some of the other bits). The garage I used wasn't the cheapest I suspect but they know what they're doing and used LR parts etc.

Still got the LR Assist cover on mine, I haven't checked the paperwork to see whether I HAVE to have it serviced by the dealer to comply. I was in Kwikfit today and asked about the cost of a basic FL service and was quoted £185.00. If I can do so without invalidating the LR warranty, I'll use them! From a time when dinosaurs weren't just confined to zoos!

Cannot believe that someone with a vehicle as complex as a Freelander 2 to Kwik Fit, no way would I let Kwik Fit near any vehicle of mine, trained chimps could do a better job.

The following story is not uncommon.
I used Kwik Fit some years ago, it was a company car, I had no choice.
Two tyres were replaced, the paperwork, complete with fitters signature and the guy who 'checked' the work, on arriving home I checked the tyres and noticed loose wheel bolts on both wheels

I've made my mind up now. I'll keep the extended warranty going till it runs out (that's £65 a month) I'll take up a 4 car recovery policy with the RAC for the family cars..this is £140 in total for 4 cars...

My indie said yesterday the most a FL2 book service will ever cost is around £200 - £260. He also said as part of any service he does the wheels all come off and the brakes are checked, he'll only replace stuff if needed of if it's in the service schedule.

He'll offer me the price for mid range parts and / or LR parts.

That's me done with servicing or any repairs with Land Rover.
