Trying to calm down now after my initial knee jerk rant above. Huge lessons were learned after 2010 and the CAA now allows planes to fly in low to medium density ash. The strong jet stream that brings the bank holiday wash out can only be a good thing.

It's ok, the planes will simply fly a different route or offer some alternative. They have all stated to the press that they are well prepared this time. The jet stream is now the crucial element... LL.B (Hons) - University of Derby

Since when has the airline industry have ever been well prepared - statements to the press - junk food for the masses, just like their on board catering. |

Big sigh of relief for now as the alert is lowered to orange and an eruption did not occur yesterday afterall. Still keeping fingers crossed for a favourable jet stream just in case.

Hoping this doesn't blow up in the next three weeks as i'm due to travel offshore three times. Last time they resorted to boat transfers to get some people home, not nice in the North Sea.

A small eruption has started but no mega ash at the moment. I am at the airport now in a lounge just waiting for our flight at 11:15. With the wind blowing north, all clear for flights.
