Today it was a scorching 30 degrees and the car sat in the sun all day. When I went to open the doors the passenger mirror was making a rubbing/clicking noise. I think the plastic housing has expanded or the internal lubrication on the mechanism has dried up. Worst case if it breaks is that atleast it's under warranty but I'd rather not go down this route. I've tried the car again after the gym and still it's rubbing long after the sun has gone away! I thought JLR tested things like these especially for customers in the more tropical climates!!!

I've noticed the same groaning on mine in hot weather. Just squirted some gt85 down there and it goes for a bit

Not sure what gt85 is, but I use a silicone spray - keeps the motion smooth for some weeks. 2011 SD4 HSE Auto

Gt85 is a bit like wd40 with added Teflon. Used for many applications on bikes

yes great stuff for the bike, Halfords always have a good stock, sometimes BOGOF

trick is to spray it on but don't wipe it off and it puts a coating on the subject. ( make sure it's clean first )

LRNut I live in Darwin where it is 30 plus every day ,my mirrors click and rub every day ,thought that it was normal . 30 plus during the dry season with 20% humidity is considered pleasant , 30 plus in the wet season with 90% humidity is not very pleasant .

Series 3 Lightweight, 1973, 1999 - 2012, still regret selling this car.
Freelander 1, 2005, 2005 - 2008, sold the minute its warranty expired.
Defender 90 200 TDi, 1985, 2012 - 2014, paid far too much for it.
Defender Wolf, 1998, 300 TDi, 2017 - 2019, too expensive to maintain and the Army hadn't.
Defender Puma, 2009, 2014 - 2014, not a sensible family car.
Freelander 2, 2012, current, is this the car to last?

I don't wish to knock what you've done but WD 40 is a freeing agent not a lubricant.

Get some oil of whatever description in there before it all seizes up again, worse.

GT85 or silicon spray, as previously advised, are good for starters.
