I disagree with their being no need for sidelights I often travel on the motorways just before dusk and find full headlights can be very distracting if it's not very dark....just my thoughts!

I think that, often, it is the perception of how light or dark it actually is that causes the "problem". The human eye is brilliant at adjusting to a large range of ambient light conditions without you actually realising.

In Norway (and all of Scandinavia I guess) it is the law that decides what lights can be used and when |

a little harsh but I'm inclined to agree. I get irritated with people driving on side lights. If it's dark enough fro any lights then its dark enough for dipped headlights. If its distracting then that's only becuase you are more visibile than other vehicles and they just haven't turned theirs on yet. Many people seem to think that headlights are just there for them to see where they're going and not as a way to be seen by others. I'd rather we all drove around with lights on all the time - as in Scandinavia - that the chaos we have here. Both my cars have auto lights and unless I think they should be on when they're not, they stay on auto. 07 Freelander 2 TD4SE Tambora Flame, side steps, privacy glass, mud flaps, boot liner and a tow bar. Ok it's the Wifes but she lets me drive it occasionally - if I've been good! |

Sorry but thats wrong ... it is only acceptable (in law) to drive with side lights only in a 30mph limit, elsewhere, if lights are required then its dipped headlamps, so sidelights on a motorway ... sorry no. Fog, slightly different, front fogs with side lights acceptable, rear fogs will only work with dipped headlamps. BUT in both cases in very specific low visiblity situations. Please remember that lights are about being seen not just what you can see. |
