Can anyone tell me if Witter towbars and specific wiring looms are handed or not? I've been on to PF Jones and they don't seem to want to commit themselves other than send me a copy of installation instructions. I've emailed Witter...no reply.
As far as I can see Witter are the only towbars which don't need a cutout. While it's no big deal to cut a piece out of the bottom edge of bumper I would prefer to keep it intact.
Hope someone can help cos this is really beginning to me off!

I am familiar with the Thule/Brink swan neck detachable bar as fitted by LR and also the Witter R40 fixed flange bar. Assuming RHD and LHD cars both have the emergency towing eye on the R/H side (looking from the rear) I cannot see there would be any difference with the actual tow bar. The bar mounts are handed to take account of this towing eye. The Thule/Brink bars need the cut out. The Witter does not.
Regarding electrics, the LR dedicated loom enters the car in the floor panel below the L/H rear light area and is installed in the L/H boot side, connected to the boot fusebox, also on the left. I assume other brands would too. Therefore I do not believe there would be any difference between RHD or LHD cars in this area.

thanks for the info, you've more or less confirmed what I thought. The thing thats got me worrying is I have seen some Thule towbars and dedicated looms from Germany advertised on ebay Fr http://www.ebay.fr/itm/Towbar-THULE-detach...3ce1f480ae which clearly states for left hand drive only. To be honest I'm a bit peeved with Jones towbars as they also advertise their witter towbars on ebay fr, obviously they are for lhd. But I can't seem to get them to say categorically they are ok. Think I'll just take the chance and buy one. Forgive your enemies....nothing annoys them so much.

I know, that's why I was looking at Jones, they would deliver to France for £25 and I would prefer the Witter, but I just can't get the to say it fits, although after your input, it's pretty obvious that there is no difference. The towing eye is on the right, and the fuse box is on the left Forgive your enemies....nothing annoys them so much.

Their reply is understandable however, as it is unlikely they in UK would have seen or fitted to a LHD car. Considering the distance, they cannot risk telling you it would fit, only for you to find it did not.

I've just fitted a Witter towbar and LR wiring loom to my RHD Freelander from PF Jones. I must say that the service and help from them was excellent. everything just fitted exactly as per the clear instructions. the actual bar is symmetrical, but the vehicle is different on each side because of the towing eye. The kit comes with two angled brackets which you have to fit on the non towing eye side and from what I recall, the brackets aren't handed. But, if your towing eye is on the offside (for a RHD vehicle) then it will fit. The electrics go up through a hole in the floor and simply plug in. there's a couple of fuses and a relay to fit in the fusebox behind the passenger glovebox, which may be on the opposite side in a LHD vehicle.
